Vortex spotter

Re: Vortex spotter

I have a Vortex Nomad and it is a great spotting scope for the money. I also have a Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50 on my rifle. If the Razor spotting scopes are built as nicely as the Razor rifle scopes(which is very likely) then the Razor spotting scopes are likely amazing. I have read somewhere that they are "world class" spotting scopes at half the price European optics.

Re: Vortex spotter

Went out looking at spotting scopes this afternoon, ended up getting a Vortex
20-60x80 Skyline. This was after looking at the Vortex Nomad (was not inpressed) and a couple of Leupolds, for the price point it was the best deal we found locally.(didn't have time to order one online and wait for it to be shipped)
Very nice glass, adjustments are smooth and easy to use. Now i need to head out to find a new tri pod.

Re: Vortex spotter

I have a Vortex Razor spotter as well as a Razor 5 x 20. I find the spotter to be very clear and can easily spot 308 holes out to 350 yards. The furthest that is at my local range. I took it to a 1000 yard training class and could easily spot bullet trace to 1000 and correct the shooter for follow-up shots. I find it to be worth the money spent on it.

Re: Vortex spotter

I just picked up a Razor. This thing is SWEET!

Images are brite and crisp. Focus is easy and precise. I got it with both the 20-60x and the 30x WA reticle. I wish the scope was a FFP because the 20-60x eyepiece rocks. Im surprised how good the image quality is at 60x. I really like the reticle eyepiece though.

I have a Bushnell Excursion (3rd one actually) that's back for repair and, the Raszor is a HUGE step up.

I don't know where you are in SoCal, but wherever you are I highly recommend that you look through as many different spotters as you can personally before you part with your money. If that involves several hours' drive so be it - better to at least peek through a spotter before parting with your hard-earned cash rather than relying solely upon what others say and making a "blind" purchase that you may or may not be happy with.

If you ever go to Angeles Shooting Range, there are a couple of guys that have Vortex Razor Spotting scopes. I'm sure that they would let you look through them if you asked politely. I've looked through one and while it is a nice scope with good image quality it doesn't compare to a big Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica, the Kowa Prominar 883/884, or my Optolyth S80 HD Compact Spotting Scope. I have the 20-60X Variable and 30X Wide Angle MIL Reticle Eyepiece and will gladly let you play with them - they kick ass.

Also, if you're not opposed to buying a used or "demo" you should also consider check-out SWFA's Spotting Scope Sample List, Specials, Trade-ins, Demos page and/or the Hide's Optics for Sale page frequently. I had a Zeiss Diascope 65T FL which was great, but wanted a MIL Eyepiece and I sold the 65T FL cheap after getting the Optolyth S80 HD Compact.
