Rifle Scopes Vortex Viper Long Range 4-16x44 or 4-16x50?

I'm just getting into long range shooting and have purchased a Remington 700 LTR in .308. Now I'm looking for a scope (and base and rings). I've liked what I've seen from the Vortex Viper Long Range 4-16 scopes and they fit in my price range. The question is for me, which objective size to get - 44mm or 50mm. Which would you recommend and what would be your reasons?

Or is there another scope in the $550 range that I should consider?

We've got two of them, they work great to 1000 yards but crosshairs might be a tad thick for the smaller targets at that distance. Go for 50mm for sure and a 20moa mount. Any decent rings will work, buy best you can afford. Good scope for the price range. Lots of threads on here about them.

They both are very nice but my advice is to get the one that you can obtain. The 50mm is much rarer than the 44mm at this time.
