Rifle Scopes vortex viper

Re: vortex viper

The non pst models are great scopes but the PST models offer alot more features and still keep you in an affordable price range. You'll get FFP, if you want it, matching reticle/turrets, and illumination with the PST models. I think they'll be worth the wait!

I just bought a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X42 and am very pleased. I happen to own an older 6.5-20X40 VIII Leupold. Both are side focus, 30mm tube scopes with caps on the target turrets and have life time warrenties. Box test and optical quality they are comparable. Turret adjustments I'd give to Leupold but not by much,(Leupold has seen much use over past eight years and Vortex is new). The Vortex is 95% the equal of the Leupold at 40% of the price. I'll be buying more Vortex scopes.

Re: vortex viper

I have looked at several Vortex Vipers and although may be good for the money, they are no where near as clear as the Leupolds. Was actually dissapointed after hearing all the good from them.

I could not disagree more. I've had them in the field. side by side and they are very close. People with better vision my see a differance but to my corrected 55 year old eyes they are close.

Re: vortex viper

I have a Viper 6.5x20-50mm and its a fantastic scope. I had originally planned on selling it or trading it toward a PST Viper from Scott at Liberty but have decided to just keep it. It works, plain and simple. I'd hate to get rid of a perfectly good scope, plus there might be a few kinks to work out on the new scopes, hopefully not but new things aren't normally perfected on version 1.0. I think anyone would be happy with either.

Bench,

The Vortex PST's, except for proto-types and test models, are what's called "Vaporware". They are not yet on the market, but SWFA and Liberty Optics are taking pre-orders.

Vortex has an excellent reputation so far, and these scopes may turn out to be the greatest invention since pre-sliced bread. But no history as yet, because they are not available for purchase by the masses.

Time will tell all.
