My buddy recently mounted a Viper PA 6.5-20 and shot it over the weekend. I had my Mark 4 6.5-20 to compare it against. This was the first viper I had the chance to look through, I really had high hopes for it but I must admit I was quite disappointed in the glass.
In all power ranges, there was heavy distortion around the outer edges. My Mark 4 has distortion as well on the edges but it goes away at 8x and higher. For some reason I also could not get the target to focus at 100 yards. It was slightly blurry at all ranges while adjusting the side focus knob. Lastly, at matching magnifications, I did notice the scope wasn't as bright compared to the Mark 4.
Everything else about the Viper was top notch. The turret on the PA kicked the Mark 4's ass. Very crisp and tactile, dare I even say it was more crisp than my Nightforce NXS. The magnification ring was a bit stiff, but precise.
I learned the term "tunnel effect" on Optics Talk, it described what I experienced with my friend's Viper. I really have high hopes for the PST line, everything else about the PA Viper I fiddled with was fantastic. If the PST line matches the glass clarity, brightness and fixes the edge distortion I will be happily switch over to the Viper PST line.
I've been anticipating this line since it's been first announced. I eagerly await to hear everyone's review.

Please have your friend contact me asap. I don't believe any of us here have ever heard of a Vipers mag ring being "stiff". Also, you should of had no problem getting the scope to focus at any ranges. I think maybe your friend might have his front ring torqued down too tight or a bad set of rings and it is locking up the parallax and causing distortion around the edges and not letting it focus.
No matter what the cause please contact me and we will get this corrected for your friend.
