Rifle Scopes Vote Trij Vs. Leu

Re: Vote Trij Vs. Leu

Trijicon has the better optics and Leupold is way overpriced for what it is. Take the $300 you save and buy some ammo.

Apple, meet Orange! Orange, meet Apple!

They are two completely different scopes as far as I'm concerned with different features, magnifications, etc. What you plan on doing with the scope will determine which of those two options is the better for you.

One thing to consider when looking at the Trijicon...they suffer from really limited internal elevation adjustment (only 50MOA total)! Because of this, assuming you can zero your rifle somewhere near mechanical zero, you only have a max of 25MOA of elevation adjustment (maybe less) which make them ill-suited for long-range use. A 20MOA canted scope base will likely fix some of that, but it doesn't leave you much wiggle room to get zeroed.

The Leupold on the other hand has approx. 65MOA of elevation adjustment.

I hear this a lot on the forum but I am not buying it. I have Trijicon's and have Leupold MK4's and the glass is not better from one or the other. Leupold glass is up there with scopes of the same price range. I can buy MK4's on the hide used for under 1000.00 all day long. I also have a Vortex Razor and the Leupold is not as clear but close...especially since there is a price difference...I like both scopes but and I wouldn't mind having either if given the opportunity.

Re: Vote Trij Vs. Leu

I don't think that elevation travel is a big one for me, I will likely zero it at 100, and at MOST will probably shoot out to 500. It would just be nice to be able to shoot more if the opportunity came up. I assume that using a 20MOA base will help compensate for the short travel on the Trijicon.

My biggest concerns are, repeatable zero, quality, and durability. One weird thing too that bothers me is just that the Accupoint seems like a very commercially driven product as to where the Leupold is issued a NSN number.

Re: Vote Trij Vs. Leu

For me, I have a Leopold and Trijicon. I added the Trijicon because its tube seems to be tougher than anything in its feature/price range and it is the best illuminated scope for its price range.

Having lived through Hurricane Ike where the power was out and the whole city was just pitch black, I try to make sure all my rifles have illuminated optics.

Both Leupold and Trijicon have beta level glass so optically they are pretty evenly matched. It is the other features (tritium illuminated reticle which I don't need to worry about the battery) that separates them.

Re: Vote Trij Vs. Leu

Trijicon defintely wins in the optical quality department. Their optics are absolutely stellar when you consider their cost. The tritium/fiber optic illumination is a great thing to have as well.
I've seen posts on here detailing the poor quality of Trijicon's mil-dot reticles. I don't know if that was an isolated issue that's a fluke, or if it's a consistent problem.
Additionally, the lack of elevation adjustment is really substandard for that scope. Absolutely unacceptable.

Conversely, Leupold optics are overpriced, but you're getting a known reputable product.
The 3.5-10x does not compare to the TR23 5-20x. It'd be more accurate to compare the 6.5-20x Leupold to the TR23.

Trijicon has a lot of cool new stuff in the works, supposedly. It's starting to look like they're going to introduce some amazing products at SHOT Show 2011.
I would hold off buying until after they make their new product introductions.
