VTAC sling and tactical latch

Built up my first AR this year and now I'm trying to figure out how to carry it around. Started off with an old GI type sling going from the butt to the top of the forearm. Found myself always banging the magazine or the optics on something. Next attempt was a single point sling. Dragged the muzzle through the ground, banded it against my shins, tangled the gun in fences, etc. Third attempt was the highly recommended VTAC two point. Works great! Only problem is my tactical latch digs into my chest, gut or back depending on how I'm carrying it. I want to retain the functionality of a tactical latch, but use the two point sling without pain. So my question... is there a different tactical latch that works with the two point or a different way of mounting the sling that shifts it out of the way?

Re: VTAC sling and tactical latch

Yes, check out the PRI latches. The Badger Tac latch is bigger than it needs to be, and gets in the way.

Re: VTAC sling and tactical latch

First off how are you slinging your rifle? I.E. are you going over your left or right shoulder? I sling my rifles that are set up for 2 point over my right.

As far as CH you can always get a BCM CH. I have one each on my SBR and on my Mega MA-Ten, both are the medium latch.

I find that using this latch gives me enough positive contact to charge one handed by griping or using my palm. Plus with this being the Medium size latch I haven't had any issues with digging into my chest. Another way that you can sling your rifle so the ejection port is towards you.

If you decide to sling with your ejection port towards you, it works better if your sling attachment is on the right side of the stock. This way it lays better with the sling.

On my MA-Ten I have a UBR with the QD sockets on the left side and it works nicely for me. On my 11.5 SBR with CTR I use the QD on the right.

Pardon the teenage girl bathroom pose, but here's a pic with my MA-Ten. If my QD socket was mounted on the right it would lay much more naturally. Here's a pic, and since it's a mirror shot things are backwards.

Thanks for the detailed reply!

I run the sling over my right shoulder with the ejection port out. Tried several different ways with the port facing me but it just didn't feel right. Harder to get on the rifle. I'll check out the BCM and PRI handles. The BO oversized latch is great until it's jabbing into ya.

By the way you were really testing my intelligence with the mirror picture. Actually had to stand in front of a mirror to sort it all out. Not as easy as it looks... at least for me

Re: VTAC sling and tactical latch

Had the same problem with the latch, it had to go. Went back to factory and worked on my awareness of the latch. There is a reason that the big latches did not come on the original design.

Re: VTAC sling and tactical latch

I use the Vtac on ALL of my rifles, all of them, yes bolts, everything.

If you look closely on the BCM rifle, it has the medium latch, I do not have problems with it digging into me. I have not run much with the rifle though, so I can only report walking, standing with weapon slung.

Sometimes I use a fitting to attach but most of the time I do not.
