Re: vx-6 or zeiss conquest
.
I bought a VX6 2-12X42mm recently and the glass quality is very, very good.
On the other hand the exterior of the scope looks "cheaper" than the previous VX-III and VX3 I have. Even costing almost double the VXIII, it looks like the olds Mark 2 scopes on the finish and genearal apearance.
Example: there is a rubber ring (not an o-ring) at the base of the turrets, but it is not "installed" or glued. It is just there, seated on top of the "floor". So, when you put the turret caps, it serves as a weatherproof ring, but as it is very soft you can easely squeeze it to the point it jumps out of the turret. And when you take of the caps, it usually comes with it or stop at the middle way, around the turret.
The other think that, is mostly cosmetic, but to me looks like poor quality, is the painting of the Leupold marks on the scope body. There is not the gold engraving of the VXIII and VX3 anymore, just a painting print in white (like the old Mark 2 made in china I think...). Not conductive to a classy look on a thousand dollar scope.
The Long Range Duplex reticle is much more thicker than the normal Duplex found on the VXIII and VX3, so keep it in mind if you like thin reticles.
Overall, I only used it a couple of times and need more time to really have a more precise opinion on the VX6, but for now I think the glass is good and the overall finish is not so good. And the ilumination is very, very good, even being only a dot at the center of the reticle.
