Wait time for new barrel install?

Been curious as to why it takes several months or longer to have work done on rifles. Specifically a re-barrel job.

Do smiths seriously have that much work that they're backed up for 1/2 a year?

Had anyone has to change a Ruger Hawkeye 6.5 PRC barrel yet? Rounds at that point?
