Response: a Letter from my RINO POS Senator

Thank you for contacting me regarding President Trump’s executive order regarding building a wall along the United States border with Mexico. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.

On January 25, 2017, President Trump signed Executive Order 13767, outlining his plan to build a border wall between the United States and Mexico. The executive order also enhances current border control measures, while directing the Secretary of Homeland Security to increase the number of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers, Border Patrol Agents, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers.

Securing our borders is critical to America’s national security and public safety. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people illegally cross our Southern Border, and subsequently disappear into the interior of our country. Some of these individuals are hardened criminals who have entered our country for the purpose of engaging in further acts of crime or violence. Others originate from countries that sponsor and support terrorism. Without strong border security and enforcement of current immigration laws, our nation is at risk.

I believe the problems surrounding border security and immigration can be solved. In 2017, I introduced the Building America’s Trust Act (S. 1757), which contained a long-term strategic plan for border security and interior enforcement. This bill would have adopted a multi-faceted approach to border security – requiring the Secretary of Homeland Security to adopt border security measures that are the most practical and effective to achieve operational control of the border. These measures include the construction of appropriate physical barriers, deployment of tactical infrastructure, and use of technology to detect, identify, and deter illegal entries. Thislegislation also includes enhanced legal tools and authorizations to strengthen the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) ability to enforce the law. S. 1757 would require DHS to work together with the communities they serve and help boost the flow of legitimate commerce through our ports of entry.

I appreciate the opportunity to represent Texas in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
