I need some help. The internet cables going to my computer are smoking and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

I'd like a target style stock for my 700 short action. I found one place that has some but the fore arm is only 2 1/2" wide and I'd like 3" or a little more.

Is there anyone that makes something like this? There are plenty that make the laminate stocks, but I'd like one out of walnut.

Thanks,
Scott.

Re: Walnut target stock

Scott,
What kind of target? Benchrest, High Power prone, standing offhand, etc. 2.5" is pretty standard for a hand held stock, and 3" is pretty standard for a benchrest stock.
You might try Wenig Custom Gunstocks in Lincoln, Mo. They have most of the old Reinhart Fagen patterns and do a lot of walnut stocks both plain and fancy.

Re: Walnut target stock

How much do you want to spend? I am having several built right now in different configs. from different makers. Do you have a blank or do you want one provided? What style exactly do you have in mind? Are you willing to shop for a suitable style or do you have one you want duplicated? What grade of walnut? Have you seen the high end maple, bubinga, lacewood, myrtle, etc? PM me if you want more info, I can steer you in the right direction with more details. You are looking in the $400-$2500 dollar range depending.

The first guy I would contact would be Joel Russo. He started out doing just laminate tactical and target/benchrest stocks but now does exotic hardwood.
His website has some examples:

Customer service is top notch, when you see his stock in person they simply amaze you!

P.S. Search for the stock he made for the guy at us optics.

Re: Walnut target stock

I really like the Long Range Target at Stockys Stocks. The only other thing I'd do, would be to put some vents in the fore arm.

Richards Microfit has the Prone/Culbertson in AA walnut for $217 but the forearm is 2 1/2 and I'd like to have about 3 1/2.

I'm not looking for the most exotic, rarest, don't make it any more, can't afford it, gun stock. I just want something that looks nice and I can still take it out and shoot it. I might not be able to fill these wants.

Thanks for helping,
Scott.

Re: Walnut target stock

Grab a Richards stock and a case of sandpaper. They usually are decent stocks but come ROUGH. Lots of finishing and shaping required. If you do get one, try to get one in stock. If you order one prepare for a long wait.
