I have a P22 with a Gemtec can. I have been having a problem with the hammer not cocking in the beginning after loading a fresh magazine, and between each round. It is necessary to manually pull the hammer to shoot.
I thought initially it was the sub sonic rounds but this would not explain the very first round.
Any help?
Thanks

Re: walther p22 problem

You mean when you put in as loaded mag and hand cycle, it doesn't stay cocked?
Clean and lube.
What barrel length?
With the 3 1/2" barrel, nearly everything will be subsonic, so try some Federal WM bulk and other "high velocity" ammo. Try whatever you were shooting successfully before you got your can.. That's the main charm of your P-22, besides price. Frankly "subsonic" ammo is a waste in this pistol.
I don't understand your "first round" problem.

Re: walther p22 problem

This is a problem that just started. It worked fine with and without the can before.
What I mean is when I insert a fresh full mag and pull the slide back the hammer does not stay in the fire position....fully cocked. I must pull the hammer back and then fire.
The round fires and ejects and loads another round but hammer is again not fully cocked.
I have tried several different brands including hi power....no difference....sounds like a hammer problem but when i PULL BACK WITH MY THUMB IT STAYS.

Re: walther p22 problem

Sounds like a hammer follow problem.
If the slide cycles, the hammer must be coming all the way back, but doesn't stay back.
Possible causes include worn hammer and/or sear engagement surfaces and weak disconnector spring.

Has anyone done a trigger job?

Re: walther p22 problem

Thanks for the reply. Here is some more info.
If I remove the mag and pull the slide back, the hammer stays cocked when I release the slide.
Same if I insert an empty mag. Problem starts with a loaded mag and when first and every round is chambered the hammer will not stay cocked excep if done manualy.
To my knowledge only thing ever done was replace the firing pin some years ago. This was my son's gun who recently passed away.
thanks

Re: walther p22 problem

when I bought my first p22 I had some problems with it a couple hundred rounds in after mounting my aac piolet on it, and so did about 3 other guys that I know. We commonly refer to them as throw away guns, in my expirence they are very problematic and you would be better off to CHUNK it as far as you can and get a buckmark, ruger or a beretta neo, no offense intended toward your firearm they just don't handle a can very well.

Oh? I know lots of guys that run cans on the P22, including me, that have no issues at all. If I had a dollar for everyone who is happy with the P22 I would be on a beach (that I owned) having people load my P22 magazines for me.
Ammo, ammo, ammo!!!
That is the key to any 22LR. And ammo has gotten pretty crappy the last couple of years too.
Bottom line is, he needs to take advantage of the warranty and get it fixed.

Re: walther p22 problem

of course by all means use the warranty, but you have got to be shitting me about these pistols not being problematic, my old man owns a gun shop, and a lot of bullshit flies around in a gun shop ill promise you but, I have seen a lot of these pistols repeatedly jam, I have had at least three myself and have tried every brand of ammo that I had available to me, with no solution, and have heard more guys bitch about these cheaply made pistols than I have heard guys bitch about there wives, hell if we go that route you suggested about the money vs happiness, I sir, might just own your beach!

Re: walther p22 problem

Here's a good bible for it. I did a lot of playing around and working with it to get it to run the way it should. If you are not afraid of playing with it then download the bible and get to it
