I have a 700 action I am building my Edge on and wanted to fill the "Rem 700" logo and laser engrave the action.

Is this legal as long as I leave the serial #?

Will the laser engraver look the same on the steel and the devcon?

Re: Want to laser engrave my action?

I'd like some info on who can do that on my rifle also. When I had R&B Rifles build my custom rifle they engraved my Barrel and coated it in like a gold paint looks really good. Just want to do some other engraving myself.

Re: Want to laser engrave my action?

I don't know the legality.....

I highly doubt the marking on the steel and devcon will be similar...

here's a good read...

I do alot of marking at work...
On stainless steels, I run the beam to oxidize or darken the metal... Aluminum is usually anodized, so you ablate the anodizing away...
If you had a strong enough laser, you could ablate the receiver...(like mechanical engraving)

Not 100% sure but I do not think you can alter the manufacturer's model number (Remington 700). Its part of the description that is put into the 4473 form. I would check with the ATF laws on that. But I think its a no go.

i had my trust info engraved on my barrel and then had it oxided, it looks "factory" so to speak. they ( the engraving people) can use various fonts or what ever to make it look any way you want. if you want a picture of my engraving send me a pm

if this is true, then a lot of the guys that restamp their hk91's and prt91's to "msg90" g3k" "mp5" and what ever, should be in a lot of trouble.

I also know guys restamping their sl-8's to g36 and usc to ump

Re: Want to laser engrave my action?

I have seen several bench guns and various lite rifles that machine away the area where Remington is written. Some were then re-engraved with something custom. Look at Match Grade Arms, they cut the shit out of a Remmy.
