Warner Tool Company custom dies

Re: Warner Tool Company custom dies

you only have to buy one die body, then after that, just send up the fired cases and get new inserts for each chamber. Yes they are expensive, but then you can rest assured that the sized case is just right for the chamber you have in the gun. Are they worth the money, well that depends on how anal you are about your reloading too I would say. I have a set of Neil Jones dies and love them. I have a many times thought about getting some of the WTC dies, but have not yet done so, mainly because I don't have a press that will accept them.

Re: Warner Tool Company custom dies

I have them for my match guns (6.5x47, .308 Palma) and my .375 cheytac. They are absolutely awesome and worth every penny. With the cost of brass being what it is, you will get more firings before having to scrap it. You will be minimally working your brass, your necks will be concentric and accuracy will improve. This, of course will depend to a certain extent on your chamber as well.
You will need a Rockchucker or similar with the insert screwed out to accomodate the larger size. Once you have a die body, you can just get inserts for other calibers provided they use the same die body.
If you're not hitting what you're aiming at it's either you, the rifle or the ammo. At least this way you'll know it's not the ammo

I have multiple sets from Dan and Alan and I also have two sets from Neil Jones. Both are excellent and do their job very well. The Warner dies can have the guts swapped from a single body if you want. If you swap the insides, then the Warner are very cost effective.

If you are buying multiple body dies from the Warner's (so as not to have to swap the guts of the dies), then the Neil Jones will be a lot less costly.

With the custom dies, are you only able to set the neck tension to one diameter, or can you use bushings?

Re: Warner Tool Company custom dies

You would need to get different "bushings" from WTC, just tell them what you want.

I really like my WTC dies! Alan and Dan make really nice gear.

Re: Warner Tool Company custom dies

+1 when I bought my dies from Alan and Dan, I asked for multiple neck bushings to make sure I got the spread of potential neck tension that I need.

Then again I have also called them up and said please make me a new bushing of X for my 7 WSM sizing die.

The first picture shows what all comes with the die. You have the round handle with dowel pin that fits the lock ring. When you install the die into your press you only hand tighten the lock ring. If you cannot get the lock ring loose to take the die out you insert the dowel pin into the hole in the lock ring.

My die came with 5 shims for adjusting the shoulder headspace bump on your cases when reloading. The allen wrench and a neck bushing. I got my die with two different neck bushings for my caliber I'm reloading.

Next picture shows the die taken apart. From left to right you have a shim, what I call the shim retainer and three screws, the dies body (actually sizes the body of your cases, neck bushing, main die body and decapping pin assy which this also holds your neck bushing in place.

Next picture shows the die going into the rock chucker press. You have to remove the 7/8 threaded bushing from the press to install the die. The die has 1.250 threads.

Is the die worth the money? Each has to answer that question themselves. As far as I'm concerned it's the nicest die I've ever used.

If you have a custom chamber that nobody makes dies for. Send WTC a fired case and I sent my chamber reamer drawing for reference for them as well. They will make the sizing bushing per your fired case. Again all I can is that it is awesome.

Once you spend the big $ up front you can use the same main die body and just have them make you case sizing bushings for other calibers etc...

They make a die for standard calibers, a die for magnum calibers and die bodys for like .50cal. as well.

Nicely done Frank.

Yep that is exactly what they look like. And like everything else in the shooting world, each person needs to decide if its worth the cost to buy certain gear. I have multiple main body dies and even more inserts for my Warner dies.

Re: Warner Tool Company custom dies

Thank Jeff!

I just got the die and used it for the first time. Mostly checking set up and playing with it etc....

I've got to say my cases have zero run out etc...pretty much exactly the way they come out of my chamber. Again I couldn't be more pleased.
