I have noticed a couple different places where military marksmen have a rangefinder mounted to the side of their long gun... is this type of RF available to the public?

Re: weapon-mounted laser rangefinder?

If you mean a "RULR" device, which is attached to the side of the forend, then "No". Moreover, it's gonna cost a bunch! I'm skeptical of these devices since maintaining their aimpoint seems precariously difficult on the side of the rifle.
