Cherry Ridge is thawing out, so I took my Rem 5R .308 to try out my new bedding job. 43.0gr Varget under 175 SMKs at 100 yds, and my almost stock Remmy did these 5-shot groups:

The wind was puffing a bit, but I don't want to make excuses. This rifle shoots better than I can, I need to get out more.

There has been a lot of discussion here whether or not bedding a H-S Precision CNC machined aluminum bedding block chassis stock is necessary or will make any difference. I notice immediately that my groups are tighter from .45-.55moa to groups that are closer to .3moa. My local benchrest gunsmith Bob White of the Shooter's Corner said that it makes an improvement on most, some no impovement but better consistancy, but never makes a rifle any worse. Also once bedded, you don't have to torque down the receiver screws to 65 inch pounds; 45 in front and 40 inch pounds in the rear once the receiver and stock are mated together. I installed CDi Precision bottom metal on my 5R, so voiding the H-R Precision stock warranty with the bedding is a non-issue at this point.
