hey guys. I am really caught up on the glass I will be soon purchasing. I was almost completely set on a 10X SS until someone mentioned the recital was in Mils and the adjustments were in MOA. This is 100% fine with me but I have been doing a lot of reading on the Mil/Mil vs Mil/MOA debate.

It seems that the MIL/MIL would be a little faster and easier to learn at the distances I am looking to shoot (3-500).

I saw someone say that the Weaver Grand Slam was on sale at midway and I checked it out. It seems like an OK scope and has decent reviews.

Am I loosing anything by going with this scope over the SS? Am I gaining anything?

I dont want to buy a scope and decide I bought to cheap and got a POS and have to rebuy. All help is appreciated.

Mike

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

I assume your talking about the weaver 3-10x mil/mil. I own one thats on a sps tactical in 308. Glass is decent for the price, build quality is very good. Seems to track well and returns to zero, I say go for it if you want a mil/mil.

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

Ranger Mike,

Do you NEED the 3-10X variable?

Are you just punching paper at known distances or will it see other uses?

The Grand Slam does seem to be a good scope based on the Lowlight video review here.

If you don't NEED the 3-10X and can go with a fixed 10X, you can save a few bucks and go with the Bushnell 3200 mil/mil on sale for at Midway for $174.99.

Not saying Weaver is bad, but the 3200 is a fixed 10X like the SS, and mil/mil.

Folks have reported 600 with no problems on the 3200, plus it is $125.00 cheaper. This means more ammo/more beer/closer to better glass down the road!

I'm out of my lane, but if it gets me beer money, I'M THERE!!!

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

The weaver is a very nice scope for the money. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a weaver fan boy. They track good and glass is also nice. Weaver always has a lot of scope for the money imo. The only weavers that I haven't tried out are the new tactical line. Which I might get one this summer. I have no experience with the bushys. A lot of good reviews on those aswell though. Truthfully, I think that there is a lot to be said for a fixed power scope and a fixed 10 power is a nice allaround scope to have. I would chose a fixed power over an adjustable any day. Btw....weaver is not a pos.

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

I just went and read the reviews on midway. What a bunch of retards! Some guys gave the scope a 4 outta 5 because the glass wasn't as good as their make 4 glass. Morons amaze me, they spend $300 on a scope and they are upset because the glass doesn't compare with that of their $1300 scope!...really. if it did I would be pissed at the mk4. Ok....rant off. I just hate stupid people that don't rate honestly and correctly. Because if they did...it would have all five stars. Instead, they are trying to compare a $300 optic to that of a $1300 optic and then get upset when they are not equal. Morons.

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

I have a weaver 3x10 tactical and have no regrets at all. I enjoyed the optic so much I have mounted it on my 308, 5.56 , and yes being the dork I am mounted it on my 458 socom to try some 300 yd shooting . I have dialed in as much as 44 inches of come up and back to zero with no issues , I also like the fact I dont have to jack with any focusing nobs. it is plenty of glass for the range you state and a very hard bargin to beat for the money . just dont go into purchasing this optic or any other expecting it to compare side by side with high end optics and you will be a happy camper.

I'm with you on that. I read a lot of bad reviews by idiots on Midway, it's annoying because they skew the results of an otherwise good/bad product.

Exactly! The product should have a solid 5 stars or 4.5. They don't have a legitamate bitch to complaign about other than a $300 scope doesn't compare optically to that of a $1500 scope. If it works as it should and is compairable or better than others in the SAME price range...then rate accordingly. Morons.

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

Midway has a Bushnell 3200 10x mil/mil on closeout for 174. Just picked up 2. Came yesterday and looks great for the money. They will be going on savage markII's

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

Thanks everyone for the opinions. I will weigh the options tonight and purchase then. I got a smoking deal on a lightly used 10X SS with side focus last night so that may sway me a bit.

Mike

Edit: "Ranger Mike" haha that takes me back a bit. It was "Ranger *****" (last name of course) but still gave me a bit of a chuckle..thanks

Re: Weaver Grand Slam at midway GTG?

Glad to help out.

I was in the same boat as you not too long ago, did countless searches all over this site and the rest of the net, and narrowed it down to the same choices.

In the end, I went with the Bushnell fixed 10X mil/mil.

I figured it would get me out RFN, learning to range with the dots and putting rounds down range on target instead of staring at my safe while I was counting my pennies.

If you get a screaming deal on a side-focus SS, do it. You are already familiar with it and folks have been using mil/moa to put lead on target for years with no problems.

(probably not making this easier am I?)
