I am a fan of Weaver's Grand Slam, Super Slam and Tactical lines. I have had no complaints with any of the Weaver rifle scopes that I own. Then while browsing the internet for scope prices I came across the Weaver Tactical 6-30x56 (800390) which has a 34mm tube, illuminated reticle and reset-to-zero turrets for $750 (new in the box). So I instantly bought it thinking that I could use it on a future build or return it worse case scenario. Can anyone who owns or has owned this scope comment on it? Considering this scope weighs approximately 40 ounces, what kind of build would be best suited for it?

IW is in the ball park on Midway's pricing. I bought the first one for something like $900 IIRC, then a day or two later, they dropped the price down into the $800+ price range, and I bought another one. Natchez had them for $740 a week or so ago.

I'm an Athlon dealer, and have purchased three of their Cronus 4.5-29x56 mil scopes for my own use - if it weren't for that, I'd have been looking to pick up one or two of the Weavers at that price. However, the Athlons have less CA than the Weavers, and a much more usable reticle, so I'm happy with what I have.

I purchased two of them during the Midway sale.

Oct 2014 $887 shipped from Midway

I purchased another as soon as I saw the Natchez price at $771 shipped.

And I'm ordering a 4th tonight.

I agree with Dleeds about the Bushnell being a good comparison, I did some crude opinionated comparison when putting together my last couple rifles and deciding on scopes. I sat a vortex razor gen 2 4.5-27, Weaver tactical 6-30, Bushnell DMR, and Weaver tactical 3-15 down side by side to get my thoughts on which I liked over the course of a day looking to points of 48yrds, 270yrds, and 470yrds. I checked on them from lunch time until dark comparing each scope to the other at the various distances.

My personal opinion of that was they they come out in the order I have them sitting.

The 6-30 gets pretty dark in the 28-30 range but in 6-27 range it seems to hold it's own very well. I couldn't blame any missed shot on the scope when comparing it to the Vortex Razor.

I've spoken with the company once while researching their warranty and they were very responsive even though the warranty only covered illumination for a fixed period of time they took care of me regardless (warranty work was on the 3-15 not 6-30 btw).

What height rings are you all using for these scopes. Think I'm gonna pick one up Thursday

Could vary greatly depending on your rifle set up...

Setting up a separate post with specific info could gain you a good deal of help with someone familiar with your exact set up.

Don't forget to account for scope caps if you plan to run them as well
