I posted a while back a question about starting a business and got some really good advice. I return with another question. I am trudging through the task of trying to find a reputable web host for an e commerce website for my business. I think I find a web host with what I need and then find reviews that say to stay far away from said company. Are there any "hiders" with real world experience that can point me in the right direction of a web host that doesn't have hidden fees, unexplained down time or other unnecessary headaches that a new startup company can't afford to mess with? I have looked at Inmotion, host gator, ipage, godaddy and yahoo. The last seemed really good but way out of my startup budget. Any info is greatly appreciated!!

I highly recommend serverpronto (their customer service used to suck and you'll find quite a few bad reviews, however, they've since been bought out and are under new management which has greatly improved their customer service and support). Their prices are good, the systems are good, the network connection is great. I have a dedicated linux server with them. You can also get windows with IIS/SQL if you so desire. They also offer cloud hosting, virtual private servers, etc...

You will spend a bit more for their dedicated servers, however, in my mind it's worth it if you know how to maintain your own server. If you're not experienced in that area, their managed service dedicated hosting adds some cost but is well worth it to ensure patch levels and configuration controls are maintained.

I know absolutely nothing about HTML or website design. I have learned a bit in the last couple days though. I am looking at hosted ecommerce solutions. Looking for something affordable that I can just plug my info into. I have a lot of experience in graphic design but nil in the web based area. Thinking I will have to start out with PayPal Advanced for payment to begin. I have my FB page up and have gotten some interest and a couple holster orders but need to get more steady orders coming in.

I have never had an issue with web hosting hub and am closing out a second year with them. They also have easy access and setup for WordPress which you really need to look into because it simplifies a lot of your content management and you can add features with plugins.

Take a look at LiquidWeb.com. I have a few what's called VPS accounts there, which is basically a big, fast virtual server that I can host as many websites as I want on it (space/bandwidth permitting of course). Anytime I need help, someone picks my support ticket and starts working on it usually under 5-10 minutes. Over the past 12-13 years I used to have a bunch of accounts with different providers, but recently consolidated everything to LiquidWeb.com

If you go with a cpanel/whm style account (which is VERY common), you can easily move entire sites to different providers literally within minutes if you're not happy with the provider. Cpanel is basically a graphical control panel architecture that sits between you & the web server, automating many tasks. Migration is also one of its many features. Check cpanel.net out...

Cheers
