I'm thinking this has bee discussed before but a search ahs turned up empty. Does anyone know the actual weight difference between a B14R 18" steel barreled action and the 20" heavy version?
I've had one for a year. And seen many older versions. I'd say they shoot the same as the others. No better....no worse. Which shouldn't be too shocking since they are relatively the same price point and made in nowhere different from the rest.
I had 2 loads Tenex and SK match put 5 shots into 3/8 at 50 first time out. I was just going from brand to brand not taking different lubes into consideration. I think mine will hammer when a brand is settled on and the barrel gets properly fouled.
I just picked up a b14r heavy and already own the 18” version. My 18” version last time out put 29/30 shots inside an inch at 100 yards. Which I consider acceptable. SK long range
I bought the heavy because it was $641 and figured if I’m not happy with it I’ll send to Modacam for a barrel upgrade.
If you were shooting 50 and 100 yards the B14R heavy may only give you the advantage of weight. I can’t picture mine stopping all over the accuracy of my 18”.
However when you start shooting 200 + is where they may separate. I plan to take whichever is best and keep that setup for my wife/kids/buddies to shoot. I’ll upgrade the other which I’ll primarily use for longer ranges just to see how far I can push it
Ideally I’m hoping my 20” outshoots my 18”. Especially at distance because the 18” setup would be perfect with the 20” hvy in my MPA BA comp. Then the 18” would be updated to a 24” or similar barrel which would reside in my MPA Matrix Pro II which is on the way
