Hey guys, I guess this could be considered a warning...

I got an e-mail the other day that was supposedly from UPS, but had a .RAR zip file attached to it. The zip file was supposed to have the tracking info in it according to the e-mail message. When I tried to open it my computer flashed up a severe level Trojan Downloader warning & I cleared it out & deleted the e-mail. Seemed fishy to me from the get-go because whenever I've ordered stuff before I've always gotten an "official" UPS e-mail that has the tracking info in it as soon as you open it, never with a zip file. It did have an e-mail address to reply to & it was an "@UPS.com" addy though. Any thoughts or experiences with this before?

Here is the e-mail message...

Dear customer.

The parcel was sent your home address.
And it will arrive within 7 business day.

More information and the tracking number are attached in document below.

Thank you.

Re: Weird e-mail from "UPS"...

The sender address that you saw was not the address that sent the message.
It didn't come from ups.com.

If you would have looked at the full email headers you would have seen that.

I can send you an email from [email protected], or [email protected], for that matter. It's not difficult to do.

Re: Weird e-mail from "UPS"...

I've been getting the same messages. At least once or twice a week. I know when I order stuff and when I don't. And if someone sends me something then I'll just wait till I get it.

Never open suspicious emails.

Re: Weird e-mail from "UPS"...

Unfortunately, you've got to be carefuly with emails now adays. Its getting easier and easier for people to send scam/virus emails. Guessing your software caught it before any problems?

Re: Weird e-mail from "UPS"...

My wife just got this today. She asks me if I have something coming in the mail. I told her yes but why would they email my tracking info to a dozen people- DELETE.

Re: Weird e-mail from "UPS"...

I received that email as well. I deleted it right away when I saw that .zip file attached.

Damn kids in their parents basement have nothing better to do.

Re: Weird e-mail from "UPS"...

The multiple mispellings in the email was a dead giveway that the email was a virus. Also, if you do a little research, you'll find that particular one is old news.
