Hunting & Fishing West Texas Part 2 (Big Axis)

Second hunt of the 11 day period I had Mr. Dudley out for an Axis hunt. He arrived a bit early the first evening so we decided to head out for an hour or two of hunting. I got up on a high point and we glassed up several nice axis a long ways off and decided to go after one in particular. We were quietly stalking down a trail when a nice buck cut accross about 50 yards in front of us on our way to the other buck. I cut up a hill to get in front of the buck and we closed the distance to under 35 yards, all we had to do was wait until he cleared the brush. A short time later he did and Dudley dropped the buck in his tracks.

That's a great buck. Axis sausage and jerky is by far my favorite of any kind of game meat and preparation. Spend the extra dough at the processor, you'll be thankful you did.

Love me some Axis. Not only is the meat SUPERB but the hide makes some of the best looking furniture and throws out there.

Agreed. As you can see, it's my favorite backdrop for knife pr0n and the such.

very nice axis deer, cant beat the steaks on that critter! looks about 33 or 34 incher.

Yup he was almost 33inches. Darn good eating bucks or does.
You get some that are grazing on alfalfa and theres nothing that can top that venison.
