What 1-pc scope base for my 700 SA?

I'm going to need a 1 piece base for my future scope and rings and was looking at a Leupold MK4 1 piece.

Anyone offer any advice on any other brand and what reason? I'm also not getting an MOA base because I don't think I'd ever have a reason to need one.

The scope I HOPE to get is a Nightforce NSX 15x MLR so I should have more than enough elevation adjustment for how far I'm shooting to not need a canted MOA base.

Any advice you more experienced shooters can offer would be more than helpful.

Thanks guys

Get a 20MOA Badger. It's better to not get to the top of your elevation because the adjustments can be less consistent. Also you start to run out of windage as you go up. On top of that, you are now looking through the edge of the optical elements. Oh yeah, and as you run the turrets up, you might think you have more adjustment than you actually do. Turrets sometimes can still have some adjustment in them even if the erector tube is stopped against the inside tube of scope. This results in false elevation.

I see no reason NOT to get a 20 MOA base. Heck, I don't understand why all of them aren't canted at least 10MOA.

Shouldn't be any different. You're only going to shoot at 100yds?

Consider this, if later on you end up wanting to shoot farther, you'll have more adjustment. Also, if you swap scopes around and put something with less travel available on that rifle, you'll find yourself wanting that extra travel.

I have a ziess conquest that only has 40MOA total elevation to it. Right now it sits on my very first base (2piece, 0 MOA) I find it pretty crippling that the scope is nearly maxed out for a 100yd zero. If I'd known what I know now, I would have bought a base with some forward cant to it.

The Near Manufacturing bases are excellent quality (not cheap though), and Nightforce do a one-piece unitized mount that screws onto a Rem700 action - also very good.

A canted base has absolutely no affect on close targets, it only extends your ability to dial. They're the same price, so there is no reason not to get a canted base.

I've seen several people with flat bases run out of adjustment and wish they had more, but I've never seen a person with a canted base wish he had a flat one.

As far as brand, there are plenty to choose from, and most are good. I personally have a Badger and a TPS, and they both hold a scope just fine. Seekins, EGW, etc should all be ok.
