looking for a 16in barrel. i have looked at bison, wilson, ar15performence, and others. ar15perfoemence is the only company that offers 5r and other vary between 4 and 6 button groove. im looking for a hunting mostly rifle but will shoot groups for fun. not looking at complete uppers. what barrels have you guys used and had good luck with. or is there another brand i should look at?

Re: what 6.8 barrel

Currently own a Noveske 16" 6.8 barrel that shoots little tiny groups with my 100gr Accubond load.

Owned an ARP barrel for a while but a problem with the bolt firing pin hole being too large pissed me off, but he still makes great barrels.

Can't really go wrong with ARP, Bison or Wilson; especially for the price compared to Noveske.

Re: what 6.8 barrel

I'm running two ARPs that make bug holes, Any of the ones you mentioned would be fine.

Black Hole Weaponary, White Oak Armament and Rainier Arms also offer some accurate pipes. If you go with WOA, make sure those are SPCII chambers and you will be GTG.

Re: what 6.8 barrel

+1 on Noveske barrels. I have a 14.5 Afghan that I absolutely love. It shoots a hell of alot better than I can - moa, or better. It has the proper chamber, and 1 in 12 twist to run high pressure performance 6.8 ammo, like the stuff sold by Silver State Armory. My gun loves everything: Hornady 110 OTM, SSA 110gr Accubond, 85gr Barnes Copper solids, and my hand loads.

This is my dedicated hunting rig - well, it would be if I ever had the time to go!!

Here's a pic: (I have more pics of my guns than my family members, is that wrong?)

Rainer Arms Ultra Match 6.8spc works well for me.
Accuracy is phenomenal.

Call Compass Lake—they were willing to spin a Bartlein or Krieger 6.8 barrel up for me last time I spoke to them. Also GA Precision was willing to gin up a Bartlein 6.8 barrel. I ended up with a Rainier UM barrel for my most recent build, it is with Wes at MSTN right now.

Re: what 6.8 barrel

thanks everyone im still looking at a few. the guy at the local gunsmith tried to sell me a alpha shooting 6.8 18in 1/10 ratio stainless barrell for under 175. have you guys used this brand before? for material and work that goes into this they are giving them away. i looked at reviews through google and they dont have horrible reviews.

+1, never heard of Alpha but that doesn't mean it won't be a good barrel. Many other good choices out there..

That's BS.
A faster spinning bullet MAY cause more terminal damage due to the faster spin, a faster velocity as in FPS is what causes the same bullet to expand more. That is why most bullets shot out of a 300 AAC don't expand...they are made to expand at 308 velocity.
Spin a fmj at a 1:1 twist rate it stll wont expand at 300BLK velocity.

Re: what 6.8 barrel

The 1;7 Bison was designed for subs. Although it can shoot supers.

I have an ARP. mainly due to it being Melonited & his CS. Awesome accuracy doesn't hurt either.
Bison or BHW would be tied for second on my short list.

I'd have that Alpha checked out. If it's SPC I I'd have it reamed to SPC II before buying it. For a little more you can get a new ARP barrel.
