I have lost track of where this is. If they have "veto proof" majority-I think Trump can ignore it and force them to work thru holidays to "by pass" his "veto" by not signing.
I am glad there is someone calling this shit out at highest levels-it is truly insane and requires firm push back IMO.

That's my understanding as well. They (congress) possess the votes to override the veto.
IF they work "in session" for the next couple weeks.
If they break for holidays-I am not sure that stands. I could be wrong-I am going off memory here. If they break I think it is considered "veto'd."
I agree we can't allow it to keep flying. This same shit disguised as foreign aid, has been flying high for decades. And as a bonus--since most small business are individual earners, they won't get a check as they "make too much money" aka the income is WAAAY above 75,000. (Thats actually not a particularly high bar). So not only are you shut down, you get no check AND your taxes (which are due no matter what) are spent on a bunch of backyard pony projects. I'm not saying I'd revolt--I'm just saying I'd understand...
Plus lets look at the check itself. Lets say 100m peoplele are eligible. (I think I read 88mil in this thread, but easy math, 100 mil it is!)
100 E6 x 6 E2 = 600 E8 = 60 E9 aka 60 Billion. That is less than 1/10th of the money being spent in this bill (just checked 144 mil taxpayers total. so 100 mil is a good estimate of who gets a 'check')

Even if we assume this theory is true, it begs the question: Why was this needed for inclusion in an AMERICAN economic relief package.

FDR didn't end hunger. I have relatives in living memory who can bear witness to that. (There are historical arguments that he made the depression worse--and the general consensus is WW2 ended the great depression). On the whole the hunger level in America is at an all time low.
While I am in the boat that Foreign Aid is on the whole a good thing (I question things like gender studies in Pakistan--ok gender studies in general), making false claims doesn't help your case. And while foreign aid may be a good thing, for national security, how good is it for national security to piss on your own people as they suffer. Trust and faith in govt is at an all time low and this whole fiasco takes another axe swing at the trunk.
Well you and I are pretty close. The fact we have an unsecured border pouring in illegals is an open sore and definitely needs priority (prob the number disappointment of Trump admin, he ran on this, not than any other president did better) And yeah 0 for illegals. They only aid they should get is a 1-way ticket back.
We'll just have to disagree on foreign aid (its an old argument the predates us) but I will definitely agree 100%, no foreign aid has any place in a COVID relief build. And our security is worthless if half the country is ready to revolt due to lockdowns (which should be ended).
My issues with the foreign aid are
1st we are in debt. We should not be giving anything until we are not.
2nd a lot of those countries are enemies of our ally Israel. The type of enemies that write death to Israel on the side of there test rockets.
3rd here and abroad these aid systems are designed to keep you dependent not to lift you up out of your hole in your time of need.
