Just got my February Shooting Times . The cover says "Redfield Lives! Leupold Breathes New Life Into the Big 'R'". The inside story describes how Leupold purchased a failing Redfield company and is trying to make a go of it. In particular, they describe and test the "Revolution" scope produced in Oregon by Leupold. I hope they can make Redfield work since it's an old American company (100 years old).

Has anyone looked at these new Redfield scopes to find out how Leupold is doing with the resurrection of the "Big R"?

Re: What about the "new" Redfield scope?

Leupold bought the rights to the Redfield name... that is all.

The scopes have no connection to the original Redfield "Made in Denver, CO" scopes. Oh they did keep the three knurled reings on the ocular body to make them look similar.

Some optics writers say they are ok... Leupold really lays it on thick about being the "Soul of the American Hunter", too funny! Redfiled will be thier lower priced brand. NJS

O-E-J,

These are supposedly made in the USA, but they are cheap. Not sure how that works. Here's one description of the 3-9x40 I found:

Revolution 3-9x40mm
4-Plex reticle - Matte - Illuminator Lens System gives you the clearest image - Premium lenses & vapor deposition, dielectric coatings - Rapid Target Acquisition eyepiece - 1/4 MOA finger click Accu-Track adjustments

For $150 street price I'm a bit skeptical, I'll be sure to check these out at SHOT.

Leupold sent me one to look at. I got it a couple of days ago and will be evaluating it over the next several weeks as a part of my "inexpensive scope" comparison.

I expect to drag it out to the range along with a few other competing designs next weekend.
