what ammo is best to use

im new to rifles and shooting. bought my 1st rifle remington model 700 tactical .308 10:1 20 in barrel. im gonna use it for rec shooting and longer range hunting. i have shot off the shelf ammo through it 20 rnds, but every one i have talked to says "shoot better ammo" but no one has told me what i should be shooting. its all stock i hope to build one soon. thanks for your help

Try different brands of match grade ammo. With the 10 twist your rifle has you can shoot any bullet weight.

How far is long range to you?

so far i have only shot it 200 yards i want to atleast double that. i have shot hornaday 165gr sst. i would like to buy bulk case to have on hand and nothave to worry about a place to buy. where i live the only place for about 30miles is walmart to buy.
