Gents, my uncle passed away about 10 years ago, and my aunt is finally getting around to selling some of his firearm collection off...I'm interested in a few of them. She has no real knowledge on firearms, but bought a gun blue book of some sort to try to determine value. She didn't include prices with the list and wants us to make offers on ones we are interested in. I don't want to lowball her, but I'm not willing to overpay at all...none of these are rifles I was in the market for before hand, but I wouldn't mind adding some to my collection.

I haven't had a chance to look these over in person yet, but knowing how my uncle was...they are in excellent condition with very low round counts, and all original (no aftermarket parts or modifications)

#1. Remington 700 VS SF in .22-250, with a Leupold Vari X III 8.5-25x50mm scope.

#2. Remington 700 varmint synthetic fluted in .223, with a leupold vari x III 8.5-25x40 scope

#3. Tikka T3 Lite SS DM in .223 with a Leupold vx-III 4.5-14x40 LR scope

#4. Browning A-bolt Stalker II Boss in .22-250 with a Leupold vari x III EFR scope

#5. Savage Model 12 SS Fluted in .22-250 with a Leupold Vari X III 6.5-20x40 scope

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great collection of varmint guns, I was looking for a nice used .220 as a backup and they were in the $750-$1000 range (scoped/used). I'm sure he probably paid around $1500 - $2000 per on those better scoped guns.
Sorry to hear of his passing, I'm sure the critters aren't. I'll bet he was quite a guy.

When you figure out a price one #1 and #5 let me know. I may be interested in #1 and a buddy of my may take a look at #5. That's a nice set of 22-250's. He must have really enjoyed that round.

Pics would be awesome.

Well, I picked up 2 rem 700 VS SF in 220 swift back around '95' for $650 each at Galayan's.

What they are worth today, who knows. I had the same scope on it as your uncle did with a target dot. Gave the other one to my dad for his birthday. They both shot well, even to this day.

I don't believe he had any work done to any of these, just a factory rifle with a scope.

I'd say he was very fond of 223 and 22-250 both, there were 3-4 other rifles in 223 and as many if not more in 22-250 on her list for sale, these were just the ones my brother & I were possibly interested in. My cousin (his only son) got to go through the collection and keep what he wanted, which ended up being all of the larger caliber bolt guns, pistols and AR's. I'd say he kept 20 long guns for himself, and I have no idea how many pistols...and my aunt still has a list with 35 rifles she is selling, so he was quite a collector.

Elite_kg, I'm not sure what she plans on doing with all of these...she gave the list to the rest of the family so we could purchase what we wanted, but I doubt she wants to go through the hassle of selling individual rifles to people across the country. More than likely, she'll dump the lot on a purchaser who will buy them all to sell at gun shows or their store. She already sold all of the ammo he had accumulated to one person who knew my uncle, before talking with anybody else about it...I'm sure he got a sweet deal, but still ended up giving her $6000 for it.

Ok, I talked to my Aunt on Friday...she wants me to come up with an offer, and she's doing her homework right now also.

The one I'm really interested in is number 2, the Remington 700 varmint synthetic fluted in .223, with a leupold vari x III 8.5-25x40 scope.

Ive done a little digging around on gunbroker and searching on google, and the 700 VSF's are listed between $600-800, new and used ones. This one is used and at a minimum, 10 years old...maybe more. They may not be selling for that price, but that's where they are listed. The scope is what's giving me a hard time...obviously that's an older scope being a vari-x model, and prices for new comparable scopes cost a lot more these days. Plus, selling as a package seems to bring less money than selling the rifle and scope separate.

For the package, is an offer of $800 too low or insulting? I'm not trying get it for a steal, but I'm not willing to overpay...if I can't get it for a good deal, I'll pass. This is a rifle I'd like to have, but not something I was in the market for before this came up. Who knows, she may come back and want $1500...I'm just trying to get a number that's fair for both of us.

I think it's more than fair , scope now might sell for $300 even though at the time it was a $700 to $750 scope
Older discontinued glass doesn't hold it's value. Even if you have to kick it up another $75 to $100 I think it's a good offer on your part.

If your aunt tells you $1500 , bring her to a gunshop and let them give her an offer for a reality check

That's actually a very good idea...she lives about 15 minutes away from Cabelas, and their gun library appraises and purchases used guns. If she's way overpriced, I should bring her up there and have them give her a price, then tell her what I'm willing to pay.

I recently traded in a Rem 700 BDL SS DM in .30-06 there, 15 year old rifle but less than 100 down the pipe and in perfect condition...they gave me $450. They were only willing to give another $100 for leupold vx-2 scope, leupold alumina magnetic caps and qrw rings, all 4 years old in great shape. Obviously that was removed and sold by itself...
