I have a McMillan A2 stock that was home to a Rem VSSF in 308; so this stock is cut for BDL bottom metal. I've put the action back into the H&S stock and sold it and picked up a Stiller TAC 30 from the HateCA group buy (Thank you sir!)and I have a Huber trigger on the way..... so what bottom metal should I get? Recommendations? I've thought of...........
PT&G... I think this will bolt right up but not too pretty. I wonder what the Tactical Steel looks like.
Surgeon...probably a lot of fitting required.
Williams...probably a bit of fitting required but I like the looks.

Re: What bottom metal?

It depends on if you want a top loader or a mag fed.

Both have many choices. If you want to use the AI mags, I doubt you will find a quality DBM that will fit into a BDL inlet. Most quality DBM systems will require Inletting the stock.

I tend to like ours.

Re: What bottom metal?

I have both the CDI Precision and a Seekins AICS DBM. The Seekins is a nicer design but it was a pain to find a gunsmith to inlet the stock. With CDI, they will inlet it and do a very nice job (at the time it was $65). I would, in any case, plan on sending the action along as well as a mag if you have some. That way the smith can make sure the whole assembly is functioning well.

In my case, the release lever on the CDI was catching on my backpack strap and dropping the mag. I cut the lever down so I can still release it but it won't snag. Seekins uses a button release.

Re: What bottom metal?

PT&G works very well, is very affordable and Mr Kiff is a pretty nice guy. It seems like I always go back to the good ole floorplate setup, I like to keep it simple and have never felt like I was missing out to the DBM guys, and the Badger M4 is the cats pajamas for the most part. As far as DBM's go, the Badger M5 is nice, but I would opt for a CDI or Hooper first, they are cheaper and work just as well IMHO. Good luck with whatever you go with!

+1!!

I have ran the Badger M5 in the past and now on my second CDI. I have ran the CDI on a 700P and have one for an FN controlled round feed. The FN is currently in the shop getting a new tube slapped in her and have no doubts about the reliabilty of the CDI. On a side note, Jeff at CDI is good people, eager to help and great CS.

Re: What bottom metal?

The picture above is typical of Hoopers inletting jobs -flawless.
His DBM's are great, very robust and function as good as any. I also like that it comes with two different mag release latches. One large lever style and one low profile so you can pick what you like.
