what Brand barrel do I buy for my new build(6XC)

I know there is some well experience fellas on this site that can help me decide which barrel to buy for my new build. I am building a 6XC and I am using a sako action. I am a beginner so be easy on me for my ignorance. I have not talked to a gunsmith yet.thought I would learn a little bit before I called and waste his valuable time. All and any input is well appreciated.

Call a smith that you are considering working with. Let him know what your looking to do, and he should have some suggestions as far as contour. As for brand it's hard to pick a bad one, and I would suggest going with a maker the smith already has a relationship built with. Chances are he will have some preference in companies due to his prior experience.

I knew someone would say call a Smith.rhys, you kind of answered my question. I have a buddy that works at gunwerks/best of the West they are using a lot of sheilan and Bartlien, but he also said take your pick of most all barrels of quality. I already know I want a vermin contour. I am going to let the Smith help me decide on length and twist unless anyone has experience on this subject. I am all ears. any input on heart barrels. I have a couple and wow they shoot well. I am just afraid it may take forever to get one.

Hi you would want to be looking at a 8 twist at least then you can stabalise the 105-107gr projectiles and a true 8 twist will stabalise a 115gr DTAC but some prefer the 7.5 twist barrels. the barrel should be at least 24" long but 26" would be better. the biggest thing to think about is the weight of the barrel you can hang of the action as that will be your limiting factor as for a barrle profile on Sako's they can have different tennin sizes. what model do you have? most of them we fit a straight tapered barrel 1.120" in the knoxx area then taper it to .900 and that is a good profile but some models will allow you to fit a remington Varmint profile as they have a 26mm thread.

The 579 is the action that has a small round recoul collar on the action that locks into an angle shaped recoil lug and also has the larger tennon so it is one of the few Sako actions that the Rem Varmint barrels fit well so you have a good profile for that action.

benchmark barrels rock either a 7.5 or 8 twist 3 groove and you will be loving life. if you want to shoot dtacs roll with the 7.5 if not either will work great.

I am not 100% on this but i think those best of the west guys are using some benchmark barrels too.

Hi we import Rock, Benchmark and also Lawton into Australia as mentioned you cant go past the Rock or Benchmark at the moment Lawton is not making small calibre barrels and the results with the Rock 5r barrels are amasing also the 8 twist Benchmark barrels are shooting realy well in the 6X47's we are building but they will work perfectly for your 6XC.

We just recieved a benchmark sendaro 29" 9.5 twist 338 barrel that has an ABS carbon wrap what an awsome barrel. take a look at either and you wont be dissapointed as also stated 8 twist for up to 107gr if you want to use DTAC's the 7.5 is as fast as you need to go.

Every 6XC I've built has been built using Krieger barrels. Bartlien is also a fine barrel that would serve you well. I've had such good luck with these two barrels, thats all I reccomend on my builds.

Ive had great luck with Broughton, Brux and Krieger.

Ive never delt with Krieger first hand but the service at Broughton and Brux are top notch. I wish every company had serice like that

I've used all three of the manufacturers you listed. One of them lost two of my orders. For me, the owner of that business was very unorganized to deal with. Of the three listed, krieger hands down.

Well, i can only go by my expiriences dealing with Broughton and Brux.

I purchased my Krieger through Brunos.

And as far as bad service goes, I will NEVER buy a Llija barrel again. had problems from the getgo with that barrel and he his attitude was aweful by the way he treated me, his customer.

thanks guys, especially on the input of service from the different barrel manufactures. I am hearing a lot about benchmark and I am in Washington. Thanks wild Bill Keep the knowledge rolling in, as well as other guys I really appreciate. Glad to hear my Remington vermin contour is going to work I really like that look. Are the burger bullets working well in this eight twist?
