Hello all. I recently received from a friend a scope to use on my Ruger 77/22. It has a 44mm objective lens - according to Ruger, I need their "5B" scope mount.
I'm pretty new to this stuff, and need some advice.
1. I'm having a very difficult time determining whether or not I have any options other than Ruger rings. Are there other manufacturers? If so, who, and how do I determine what model rings to purchase?
2. The reason for the 'new-to-me' scope is that I want to shoot out to 200m (punching paper only), and the scope I had on it previously just wasn't cutting it. Given the drop of the 22lr bullet @ 200m, am I going to need to elevate the front ring? If yes, how do I do that on the 77/22?
3. I'd never heard of "lapping" scope rings prior to a couple of days ago when I started researching how to mount this scope. I believe I understand it now, but is it necessary? What else do I need to know to mount a scope properly? Links to already-existing instructions / discussions would be just fine...
I'm sure this is very basic stuff to many of you, and I apologize if the answers can already be found elsewhere here. I did search for a while and read a number of threads, but couldn't find the answers I was looking for - especially to the first 2 questions.
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can provide!
