Re: What does the milatary use

EH, I understand where you are coming from.

Do you think for a minute I would have ever posted that stuff about Counter Sniper scopes if I thought anyone would actually believe it? I have always talked everyone out of buy shit optics. Although I started it.. it kinda took on a comical life if it's own.

He should have done his home work.

The comedy of errors in this epic thread are staggering.

Should we start a bail out fund for his optic replacement? If so.. I'm in.

Cheers.

Good. I'm glad to hear that.

Re: What does the milatary use

I wasnt talking to you lone wolf but my source is not google but Gary Schneider himself. As far as the nuclear age comment, I was referring to the battle plan that commanders draw up to map training, and how they will run the military. After WWII the US position was that there was no need for snipers thinking battles would be fought with small nuclear weapons until proven wrong in Korea and Vietnam but by then we had fallen behind in sniper training and technology. I mean no disrespect, lonewolf and wasn't referring to you about the hathcock comment, and the reason I said to do that was cause if you do google it a youtube link will appear to an interview with hathcock which is interesting. I am not someone who sits on here and just requotes the enternet. My grandfather was an Army sniper, father a USMC SS and I am on the state of OK military shooting team and won the governors twenty match. Now I know the hide is known for being a tough crowd but that doesn't mean it is ok to be disrespectful when all I was attempting to do was talk about firearms.

I'm all for 'caveat emptor'. But this site does constitute - or rather should - a good place for good info for one to do their homework.

However, just look at some of the threads here between so-called 'informed' people, they can't even agree the basic elements of optics. A noob coming in here and trying to do homework by asking for opinion or factual information can very easily get misled and they could believe it if they are totally new to this thing.

I'm not saying we throw rose petals at the feet of noobs who venture in here but the alternative doesn't have to be kicking them in the balls before they're even through the door.

Why not give them the benefit of the doubt, guide them until they feel they're grounded and can make intelligent choices and <span style="font-style: italic">then</span> kick them in the balls? Surely that would be more satisfying....

Gotcha. Thanks again for the information.......

Actually, during WWII and Korea, it was the Lyman Alaskan, Weaver 330 and Redfield. Redfields big contribution was the bases.

The M84 is an oddball for sure, but stayed around for a long time.

"<span style="font-style: italic">The M84 was standard for the M1C, M1D and Springfield M1903-A4, but was not available in quantity until the Korean War. Libby-Owens-Ford was the military contractor</span>."

It took a long time to find that one out. Ford was probably the money behind the deal, and maybe some of the metal work, but Libby-Owens were no doubt the glass and working parts of the scope. Before the Marines adopted the Unertl they also briefly tried a Stith-Kollmorgan known as the MB4X (something like that)?
