Gunsmithing What have you done with your Mauser action?

Re: What have you done with your Mauser action?

I have rebarrelled 98 surplus Mausers to:
(2) .223
(1) 7.62x25mm
(3) 243
(1) 25/35
(1) 257 Roberts Ackley Improved
(1) 260
(3) 7mmRemMag
(4) 308
(1) 300 Win Mag
(1) 45acp

The 8x57mm cartridge that they typically start out with is hard to beat, but the 243 and 7mmMag have something over the 8mm.

Re: What have you done with your Mauser action?

I am leaning towards 308 only b/c ammo is a dime a dozen. I would love to put a mcmillan on it but i have no clue how much it would cost considering they dont make a mauser stock and it would have to be custom.

Does anyone have any pictures?

It's usually the "2 steps" seen on most mauser barrels....

Is that a triple X can?

Re: What have you done with your Mauser action?

The stock started as a stock blank( big piece of laminate)The can is a Innovative Arms Solution can( all the adaptors go to different weapons) The barrel started life as a 5.5 contour for a Rem 700( cut it down and recut the threads and chamber)

Re: What have you done with your Mauser action?

Boogeyman- Any chance you'd want to make another one of those 1 piece bases?

Here's one of the Turks that I worked over when I was on a supremely tight budget in college.

Adams and Bennet F54 26" barrel 1:10tw, chambered in 30-06
Completely stripped and polished the receiver by hand
Trued the receiver and re-cased after machining
Leupold base/rings
Garbage scope (old picture, it's now wearing an NXS 3.5-15)
Fajen stock blank, I inletted it, pillar bedded and finished it
Timney Sportsman trigger, adjusted and reworked down to ~10oz

This is what I shoot the 208 Amax with at 2875fps. When I do my job it overlaps holes at 200yd.

What can you do with guns?
Buy 'em, Sell 'em, fix 'em, shoot 'em, clean 'em, hunt with 'em, and put 'em on the wall.

But sporterizing a Mauser really gets down to bonding with the baby.

That's one of the best ways to verbalize it that I've ever seen...
