really have no conceivable need/use for?

The what's the "fastest flattest" thread over in another forum got me to thinking about this.


For the most part I can't really think of much that I'd want to get that is really extreme as far as chamberings. I do have an unreasonable desire for a 45-70 but that's not exactly extreme.

The biggest thing I "want but have no conceivable need for" are a couple of Class 3s. There is a 1919 out there calling my name, cause lets face it, very little says hard-on like belt-fed. I'm in TN so I could get up to Knob Creek and do the Class 3 shoots but ehh.. Once you burn $100 in less than a minute is it really that much fun?

So, what else is out there that you want or have, stuff that is completely outside the realm of practical or reasonable. Like a 338 necked to .224 unreasonable.

I don't know about "want" but I <span style="font-style: italic">need</span> a couple of class 3 full autos to satisfy my desire to own them.

I want a Barrett 98 Bravo so bad I can't stand it but the longest range I shoot locally is 300yds so it would be pointless to have a .338 Lapua magnum, especially when it's so expensive to shoot.

I lusted after a 45-70 for years, and found an old H&R single shot for cheep. After that I went to a Marlin 1895CB.
I love that gun. 45-70 is versatile and just plain fun to shoot.
Thanks to a post here, I am now lusting after a radio controlled aircraft with real time video.

I am lusting after an 1885 Highside in 45-70, and once I get one I imagine that it will become my go-to deer gun. My only dilemma is how long of a barrel? I belong to a club with a 1000 yd range so I can actually go all Quigly and stuff but I don't want to be swinging a 12lb rifle in a stand.

I'd like to have one of each in various calibers: GAP, SAC, Long Rifles Inc., PCR, APA, Bugholes, on and on and on and....All fully set-up with optics.

Guess most people would say something with a fun switch on it, but honestly full autos don't impress me in the least. Have experience with them since I was 7 and they quickly lost their appeal to me. If there was one I would want to own it would be a Thompson M1 due to it being the first full auto I ever shot. But alas, the '86 ban will most likely keep me from owning one. I'm not poor or anything like that. It's just that having a wife and 2 kids, I would feel weird about spending $20k on a single gun.

Anyways, my dream gun to own is a .50AE Desert Eagle. I have no practical purpose for it other than just being a fun gun. I normally don't believe in owning guns for impractical purposes, but in this case I would bite my pride.

So yeah, those are my choices for guns I have no real need for.

Well, I couldn't resist the 1885 high wall any longer. I've been eyeballing them hard for the last few months wanting one for a deer rifle, not planning to play in the BPCR games any time soon, so all the really long barrels out there just weren't speaking to me, but the little 18" trapper looks like something that should never have been.

Then I stumbled on a Highwall Sporter on GB, 24" barrel. Over all at 40" it's 3 1/2 inches shorter than my muzzle loader. DAMNIT, now I gotta buy a whole new reloading setup, rings, bases and a scope for this thing.

Maybe a double rifle chambered in .585 Nyati.

Possibly a KelTec KSG.

Definitely a select-fire Ruger 10/22 with integral suppressor and a dozen drum mags. I could repel the massed attacks of prairie dogs...LOOK OUT! They're comin' right for us!

A HUGE piece of land.

I've always wanted a big piece of dirt, with a hay field big enough to shoot a mile across. A little water-creek, pond, anything, and some nice hardwoods for hunting.

I have wanted a take down scout lever action built by wild west guns in Alaska. The Alaskan Co-Pilot in .50 Alaskan

My fathers 45-70 Marlin literally gave me a hairline fracture in my cheekbone. It didnt come up and smack me that was caused by just maintaining my normal cheekweld. 45-70 unported= no fun so I have no idea why I want the .50 Alaskan so bad aside from it may come in handy if Bears take over the world.
