what is the best spotting scope below 1k ?

A used one. Or maybe call Cameraland, they have deals from time to time and they had a Kowa for about that, but remember you'll still need an eyepiece with those and they can cost as much as the scope itself. For whatever reason though, this one was a better deal on both. I'd call 'em and make sure to tell 'em you're a member here.

Leupold comes up for about that often too, though I think the 60x version costs more than that.

Some other guys with more experience with more different types will chime in shortly, this is a common question on here. I bet if you look back a page or two you'll find pages of information regarding your question.

Bushnell Legend T spotter with the reticle is crazy good for the price. I sold my Leupold spotters and ended up trying one. It works great for me. It is better than Viper HD spotters, IMO.

I looked through the viper and razor spotters from vortex. Both were pretty dang good. For the money I don’t think the viper can be best for the money. Edge to edge clarity suffered compared to the razor but not by much. The razor is a big step down from swaro, but it’s still half the price. If you want a reticle, the legend T is good for the money. To my eyes, the glass was very dark and muddy, but still totally useable inside of 1k yards.

As usual @gr8fuldoug knocked it out of the park with customer service. He had the Athlon ares spotting scope on sale so I picked it up. When it comes in I’ll be comparing it to a vortex razor and a leupold sequio. I imagine it will be way better than the leupold, but probably slightly below the razor.
