What is the longest COAL a .308 can have?

Re: What is the longest COAL a .308 can have?

Depends on the mag, too. There's stuff somewhere here on the 'hide about the Accuracy International boxes and some others...I think I've read of others loading to 2.89 or longer...

Here's a tidbit--my son bought a new Rem 700 in .308 with the 26-inch barrel. Lapua 155-gr bullets would NOT even touch the lands until the bullet was only 1/16-inch or less into the case mouth!

I still haven't used that barrel for a tent stake yet. It was a good, solid 2 MOA performer all day long, if you do your part. Sometimes as tight at 1.3 MOA. Hundreds of rounds of load development.

I'm loading for my Rem 700 SPS Tactical .308 and I've got 168 Hornady HPBT and 175 SMK's seated to 2.830" and they fit fine. I'll have to measure mine to see what the max is.

Grump take it back and get a refund! I know they have long throats but thats just crazy!

My 700 is picky with seating depth... I have my lapua scenars seated just near the lands coal is about 2.935

Cant load them in the mag and the feeder ramp doesnt accomodate loads that long either.

Im keen to try out a Morta mag and grind back the feed ramp so i can load up my scenars in my mags.

My handloads for my Savage 10 LE are 2.890" with Berger 175gr VLDs. Fits my magazine perfect, in fact looks like I could run them out about .025" and would still fit.

We might be able to give you a more specific answer if we knew what rifle you have, or are looking at.

Ditto on my sps tac Im loading at 2.860 and still not all the way, looks like 2.890 is where the lands are in my rifle, but Im not sure the methodology i used was correct for that measurement.

Depends on your mags and the throating on your gun. My sako TRG runs like 2.9-2.93 or so and fits in the mags and is about .010 off the rifling.
