Huge thread Necro, but had a quick question. About to grab another barrel for my lightweight hunting rifle in .308, and have a choice between 1:8 or 1:10 twist. Either will be 16.5” total length…short, brush gun configuration.
My inclination is just 1:10, but have a hankering to load some heavy subsonic bullets…like 220gr+…and thinking 1:8 might be better for that purpose, especially with a 16”ish barrel. But will that twist rate be too fast for my normal 168gr supersonic load?
Now that I’ve written this out, I’m 99% sure I’ll just go 1:10, the 1:8 would be good in a dedicated subsonic gun shooting 300BLK or similar, but I think 1:10 is more versatile for this application.
