What is this?

A friend of mines daddy passed away recently and left him a rifle. He doesn't know what it is. He sent me a couple pictures of it to identify for him but I'm no expert on old military rifles.

So I was thinking it was a nagant but it is shorter than the nagants I've ever messed with. He is wanting to know what it is worth and I have no idea.

Offhand it looks like a M44 carbine but not my area of expertise. I do recognize the Izhevsk arsenal marks though.

Try the vintage subforum, or there are tons of collectors sites with really good info.

Fairly certain that is a Izhevsk Arsenal Mosin Nagant M44 Carbine.

Value is $500 ish.

M44, Big 5 had them NEW UNISSUED in the 90`s for $60.
