Is it drilled through anywhere?
Let's say it is a cannonball. Could still be filled with black powder or whatever. Something to think about before you put it by the fireplace.
I considered that but no holes. I think Slash may be onto it.
Measure it and you can calculate the weight, to see if it is solid.
