What is up with Silva??

Re: What is up with Silva??

I thought you were talking about the company that makes compasses.

Re: What is up with Silva??

MMA is no different than boxing in this one way; Once you get to the top, you want to stay there. It's all about the money, and sponsorships.

Look at guys like Floyd Mayweather. The guy is great, but will never take any chances due to the crazy amount of money he gets paid.

Anderson is no different. Once he started getting paid the big bucks, his style changed.

Eventually MMA will go down the same road as boxing, but let's hope it's a long way down the road.

If he were fighting under the Pride rules, he would have been red carded and lost quite a bit of that money!

I miss Pride, Bushido, the GPs and their rules.
His KO win over Newton and his loss against Piranha were excellent. That flying heel hook was from other planet.

Agreed. I really thought he was more respectful. Hopefully Dana White and company sends him packing.

Re: What is up with Silva??

The UFC is trying to do what boxing couldn't, and that's put a stranglehold on every competing organization out there.

The majority of MMA fans nowadays, know nothing other than the UFC.

Too bad for them, they have no idea of some of the pioneers who laid the groundwork (pun intended) for some of these young guys who are coming up.

If one were to do their research, they would find that some of the greatest fights happened outside of the UFC.

I hope Anderson figures it out soon. I think the guy has a lot of talent, but he's losing many fans with his antics.

Funny how money changes people.....

Re: What is up with Silva??

I don't buy into the antics thing with Anderson Silva as much as his fighting style. He is a counter puncher by nature and if he fights someone that doens't attack, he gets frustrated. Look back at all of his fights and you will see the pattern. He beat the snot out of Forrest because Forrest was dumb and attacked him when Anderson was telling him to bring it. Loom at the fights with Rich Franklin. Franklin attacked and Anderson countered him and beat his ass. In these last couple of fights, his opponents have figured it out to stay back.

The problem I have with Anderson is that he shouldn't be screaming at his opponents to bring it. Damian Maya had a great game plan against Anderson. Anderson should just shut his mouth and attack or fight his game and shut up. Styles make matches. Dana white and the match makers should be selecting opponents that will attack Anderson if he wants to put on good fights.

Just my thoughts.

Re: What is up with Silva??

I don't think money changed him (yet). But I do think people wants to see and "epic clash" on every main card and that's imposible.
Plus, I think A.Silva never had huge fan base in the UFC just remember how people reacted when he detroyed Leben. 90% of TUF followers didn't knew him. Even the fighters looked surprised, like he was a nobody. Remember Koscheck's face??

Hey Carvera did you see Silva vs. Murray on CR?? No KO but still a great fight...

You are right, but since I saw Kimbo on UFC 113 fight card I have no hope.

While I agree with what you're saying I think when you're the champ you should be fighting the number one challenger, whoever and whatever style he brings. There's another Silva out there who for years fought with such viciousness, and reckless abandonment, that he will forever have loyal fans regardless of whether he wins, or gets KTFO.

I would much rather see an epic battle in which Anderson loses, but fought his ass off, than the garbage he's been putting out lately!

That fight against Lee was great! Murray's too much of a gangster to care about the fight game. It's guys like him, and the Krazy Horse Bennett types that have all kinds of natural ability but no work ethic behind them.

The truly great ones never lose focus that they fight for the fans!

Re: What is up with Silva??

He has always been an ass and I'm glad everybody sees it now. Now hopefully we can get rid of this piece of shit. His fights are incredibly boring, UFC 90 and 97 and this one he just ran away and fucked around. I hope they get rid of him, I stopped watching UFC pay per view after UFC 97 because of him. He ran away the whole time and then won the decision, it smacked of boxing type corruption.

Re: What is up with Silva??

It made me so happy when Dan told him he would take a point off if he didn't stop running. He should have done that a round sooner. I would love to see Silva fight GSP, especially at 170, because I don't think GSP would have a half baked game plan. I think he could take Silva down if given the chance. That's a fight that would be interesting, and could go either way. At 170, I think Silva would end up losing. Catchweight may be a different story, but look at what GSP did to Penn when he tried to fight at 170.

Silva + Machida = most boring fight ever, but Machida has the speed to get into Silva's space and with the way Machida's been fighting lately, he may put a whomping on Silva if given the chance (of course, they'd never fight each other - Silva vs. Rua 2011!). I would love to see Silva vs. Lesnar, but that'll never happen here. It would be sheer entertainment, no matter what happened in that fight.
