And why?

Mine is the Vietnam era M40. Why? Because there is just somthing about the lines of the rifle, and the wood stock, I love wood.

Just a post for fun and to get some different opinions. Feel free to post pics and links.

Probably the 1903 Springfield sniper rifle from the ww2 era i absolutely love that rifle but i am biased because I'm a ww2 nut.

I was always thought the M70 with an 8X Unertl was pretty sexy.

However, the M40A1 with 10X Unertl is still the one to beat in my opinion.

why? have you ever seen one? it's like a P-51, a Buck 110, or a 70 'Cuda...it's just right...end of story.

of course I may be a little bias

Mine would definitly be the M40a1 with Unertl 10x scope and a close second is the M70 with Unertl 8x.

Feel free to post pics and links. </div></div>im with you, im in love with the m40, everybody has so much crap on there rifles these days it makes them fugly, i love how simple the m40 is, and there is no plastic stock ever gonna look as good as a well built wood one, m40 by far my favorite

Probally the 1903. Why? Because that rifle proved that you do not need a 100x70mm scope to "get r done"!!

M40A1 would be a close second.

There are a lot of USMC guys on here that like the M40. I have only played with the M24, SR-25, the new M110 and the Barrett .50
and I would go with the M24. I heard the Pentagon is trying to phase out bolt guns and only deal with gas guns.

Operationally: the McBros 50-cal rifle that the Canadian sniper used at 2.5km against the Taliban.

Personally: the M40A3 (likely to be a memorable relic in several years). I like the McMillan A4 stock, the slotted action with Pic rail, Schneider barrels are good shooters, and the S&B/PR SSDS is a good scope.

As a long range marksman's rifle, I've always really liked the M25. Why? Accurate, lots of follow up firepower, and like the M700SA, its a time proven design. I know, I know, its not an AR-10, but still, it is one of my favorites and when put together right, still out shoots me.

M40a1 with Unertl 10x is my favorite,followed by the M40a3 then M24.

M156A1 120mm smoothbore; works <span style="font-style: italic">real</span> well out to 4,000 meters. Kind of hard to hump very far, though. Oh - <span style="font-style: italic">shoulder-fired</span>? I have to join the M40A1 crowd, I'm afraid; it's just <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">right</span></span>.

Haven't seen this one mentioned yet,

Favorite: M21

Why: solid platform, reliable, and it paved the way for other semi auto sniper rifle systems. Proved you didn't have to have a bolt gun to make those 600 yard shots consistently accurate. Also showed its versatility in urban warfare situation over the bolt guns. In a way, it gave birth to the idea Designated Marksman.

Not to mention, I kick ass with it in Modern Warfare.

Close second would be the M40 for the obvious reasons. A good bolt is still a joy to have around.

OK, I'll play too.

Hands down favorite is a clean and classic M40A1 in smear stock with Unertl 10X. So much so that I'm trying to build one to spec now.

There's just something beautiful about a clean one of those rifles, especially with a good smear pattern = work of art. I think that's where Monet got his Impressionism idea from. ;D

I'll play. My favorite is the M-21. Why, I don't know, it just is. I do like the history, the feel, and the fact it is still in use today. Truth is I like them all.

M24. The lines are superb and, as KJDrake said with his P-51, etc. example for his rifle- just classic.

It's got an elegant, smooth thickness to it that I love. This is starting to sound like a gay porn thread here

Even the front sight base, which, as far as I can tell, has never been used a single day in real operations, helps complete its perfect lines. In fact, when I was first looking at rifles verrrry early on, I thought it was simply a front sight and wanted one badly on my future build. Till I saw what went on it looked like a stork perched on the barrel, and changed my mind

I'd have to go with the M1903A1 with the 8X Unertl followed by the Winchester 70 with the Unertl.

My vote goes goes to the M21 for military and the Rem 700 in 223 for LE Sniping.

Do you mean slotted, like for stripper clips?

I would say M24, and then the M40A3. I used to hate the look of the M40A3s stock, but lately its been growing on me.

M40A1-sexy like a 68' Plymoth RoadRunner

Rather than mess with the A3, the Marines should've just put a 300winmag barreld action in new A1 stocks! 308 is fine but its time to get higher power bolts.

My second fav would be the L96a1. It's a fugly rifle but cool at the same time!

Third fav-1858? Parker Hale Whitworth polygonal rifling shooting heavy grain special twist-polygonal molded lead "bolts"
