In load work ups, I have been measuring changes in the extractor groove diameter for 1889 7.65x53 type Mauser case heads with large Boxer primer pockets as a pre cursor for loose primer pockets.
That works for me for 22-250, 243, 250 Sav, 257 Roberts Ackley, 260, 6.5Swede, 270, 7x57, 308, 30-06, 8x57, and 35 Whelen.

It also works for for me for the 1950 .222Rem case head with small Boxer primer pockets for .223 Rem.

But for the 1925 300 H&H case head with large Boxer primer pockets in 7mmRemMag, 300WinMag, and 338WinMag, that does not seem to work for me.
I have loose primer pockets with no extractor groove growth.
Extractor groove measurements are not predicting anything

No different from any other caliber.
