I know this is a reloading forum but wasn't sure where else to post my question.I have a 1 in 9 twist Rem. 700 5r .223 and looking for the next bullet to try.

I have shot 4 different loads so far and just not seeing the accuracy.

I shot all at 100 yards 5 shot groups.

Best to worst that I have tried so far

53 gr. v-max Hornady Superformance (.860)
77 gr. MK BHA (.900+)
55 gr. v-max Hornady (1.50+)
69 gr. MK BHA (1.75+)

I really like that Black Hill Ammo comes 50 to a box and would like to stick with it.But not sure what grain bullet or type I want to try next with the results I am getting right now.Any input is appreciated and I know Ill try most of them eventually but I figured I would try asking you guys since you have put alot more down range then me.

Re: What Next 223 Question

These are all factory loads.I am shooting off a bi pod and a rear bag.Everyone says that about the 69s but i cant get them to shoot for some reason.I know this is a reloading forum but figured it was the best place to ask.

Re: What Next 223 Question

Unless there is a problem with your barrel you will improve those groups with handloads, especially the 69 gr SMK. Love that bullet in a fast twist, just can not make it shoot bad no matter what.

Re: What Next 223 Question

Instead of wasting time shooting groups, you need to do a laddr test first, find the nodes and then shoot groups from the nodes, you should find a load that works. Usually find a working load with in 25-30 rounds, some times more, some times less. But over all, it is faster to do it this way.

Re: What Next 223 Question

I reload for my 300 WM and guess I'm going to have to do the same for the 223.When I got this gun I just was planning on using factory and just plinking with it since we dont have many varmints other then coyotes. When I got the gun the guy gave me some 69 gr. MK so I just need the primers and powders. How does the ladder test work?
