A GAP M40A5 or a Gladious...

Or

A put together of...

Action: Trued 700 Action
Barrel: Kreiger
Recoil Lug: Oversized Lug
Trigger: Jewel
Trigger Assembly: Badger Ordnance 5rnd drop mag.
Stock: Mc Millan M40a5

Topped off with NF glass with EGW or B.O. rings and base.

All 3 set ups are around $3500

I was looking at a gap but for the same price I figured I'd built my own exactly the way I want it. But would it preform the same or better?? Or would it end up doing about the same?

I know there is a ton of GAP die hards so I'm hoping I dont start a war here

Re: What plat form would preform better??

if you are patient just order one the way you want from a well known smith of your choice. there are plenty of great ones on here. only you know what would fit you the best, be realistic about what you are going to do with the rifle and you will be able to answer it yourself.

win-win with any choices listed.

Re: What plat form would preform better??

You really won't have a difference in performance between the 2 and you could also have GAP build you that exact rifle if that's what you want.

Re: What plat form would preform better??

Ok how this all started was I have a SPS tactical and I've made a few shots out to around 800 yards.. Still working up hand loads and it did ok but I got to thinking.. well a new barrel and I should get there.. Then a stock should help some.. Then I got to thinking instead of spending more and more money and basically when Im done have a brand new rifle why not just build a complete custom and keep my tactical as it is stock with some mods and keep it as a budget rifle and have a full out beast of a rifle as well.

So I figured just get a GAP but then I put a list together of exactly what I wanted on my rifle and just wanted to see if getting a built rifle was better than arts together by a smith. they ended up coming about the same $$ either way.

And my plan for the rifle was to hit around 1300 to or at least attempt to and know if I miss it wasn't the rifle fault.

And no suppressor or night vision. I would love to but I live in CA so no. I just like the feel and look of the M40A3 stock. I looked at the AICS chassis but I just don't like that look.

And I know GAP could put it together but I just wanted to know if it would be better to just have them build my rifle or just get one of the Gladiolus' or M40A3 model.

All guns are parts guns essentially. Find a good smith, a trusted name, that can build exactly what YOU want. If you don't know already then that will surely change ... the more you shoot.

As far as smiths... look outside the box. Roscoe and Robert Gradous build a hell of a gun. Get on the horn with these guys and talk it over. They can help sort out some things. Robert helped me a bunch. Both are extremely knowledgeable.

As far as an action, I would urge you to look heavily at Surgeon. Kriegers and Bartliens will serve you well (I'm a cut rifled guy).

They have one rifle, and its a benchrest style setup. Single shot action.
Not really what the OP was trying to spec by what I am reading from his post.
