looking at starting to reload for my .223

Its a bolt gun Remington SPS Tactical (just so i dont have to say it later on) and Im wanting to shoot some 60 grain V-Max bullets.

I asked this on another forum got very good help just like asking around and see what everyone else likes.

I was recomended Tac or H335. Anyone have anything else that they like or have gotten good results with? My dad has some IMR 3031 that he keeps insisting we try, but from what im reading about it, it would be a waist of time. Thoughts?

Re: What powder do you guys like?

My favorite for 223 60gr (sierra) is VV N130. N130 has always done well for me in terms of reliability and performance in different calibers like 223/30BR/7.62x39.

N133 is often used for 223 and is also quite nice, but I would not go slower than that unless you are shooting 75-80gr bullets.

Re: What powder do you guys like?

I love VV like mentioned above(best quality/match grade)but for quantity reloading stick with spherical like TAC,BLC(2) or 748.

Re: What powder do you guys like?

There is another discussion going on here about pretty much the same thing, but more specifically BLC2 for 223. With a 60 grain I have had great results with H322 and Phenominal results with H4895. I can recall the loads, not near the house and my notes. The H322 was the best for the 55's though. Its small and flows well. Doesn't take as much powder either, and it is an Extreme powder and less temperature sensitive, whereas the BLC2 is. Read through the posts below.

Tac, Varget, H4895, all good. Even the others mentioned. Utilize one that can be shot in another cartridge you have.

Or, IMR8208XBR it will help with clean burn and short barrel you have.

Re: What powder do you guys like?

Reloder 15 has always been great in my AR-15. I have tried to replace it half a dozen times with "the latest and greatest powder". Reloder 15 has won each and every one of these shot-outs. Just a great combo of speed, accuracy and low pressure. Don't worry about the temp sensitive issues of RL-15, unless you are shooting the gun to 1000...

Saved me a bunch of typing.

Varget fan here too.

Re: What powder do you guys like?

For .223 55gr plinking loads, it's hard to beat 844 from hi-tech. It's cheap, meters great, and is just the ticket for the M16. I've used AA2200 (no longer available) and AA2230 with similar result.

For .308 match and .223 match with heavier bullets, it's Varget. I run it through a chargemaster.
