looking at the swfa ss scopes. i only shoot at 200yrd now but would like to go out to atleast 600 soon. what power would work best? 10, 16, or 20?

WAIT FOR THE NEW SS SCOPES TO COME OUT! sorry for the all caps- but soon they are coming out with mil turrets, and a 12x (full line will be 6, 10, 12, 16, and 20). I would wait (I think I heard they are coming out end of march?) and pick up a 12x mil/mrad. I believe I saw (although can't find it) that they are going to be the same price ($300) as the current MOA turret model. I'll try to find the link and post it.

But it is true as true gets, if I only had 16 power I'd go crazy, the scope would be gone immediately, hell, my leupy had 18x max, no thanks, it lasted but a minute.
But, you suggested it, so it probably works for you, me, I like 32 power. I hate shooting on low power.
So while we may tell him what we like, it is definitely not a general "best," and it has a better chance of being off from what he truly finds best than on.
Good enough is not good, close enough is not right on.

For a fixed power, don't go any higher than 16X. I shoot 5-25's and rarely do I get up to 20X let alone 25X. Most of the time, when I look at the power ring, its around 17X. Mirage will be an issue at times if you try for higher power.

10x would be fine for a learner scope. If it's a dedicated target rifle than the 16X might be better.
The 10X bushnell mil mil is 200$ and would work fine too

Why don't you get a variable power scope then you'll have whichever one you at the turn of a ring. If its just not wanting to spend much then a 10x it'll be the more usefull and more than adequate at 600. Of course once you get to 600 you'll want to go farther. I would agree with 10x but keep in mind that you cant go wrong with going higher. I have mostly used a 10x but recently got a 20x for my work gun...man what a freaking difference that makes past 600m. If you think you ever want to push it farther than consider going big.
