That or a leupy MK4 M2 2.5-8x36mm The only reason i didn't go nightforce is because i honestly wanted the aesthetics and extra light of the 36mm over the 32mm version NF.

Well...I have a Bushy Elite Tactical 3-12 FFP on mine. The combination works very well IMHO but I actually only ended up with that combo because I already had the scope. If I were starting from scratch, and if I had the funds available, I'd probably go with the Nightforce 2.5-10 a'la the navy SPR.

I second this... Ive had about 4 optics on mine high and low powered... I think the 2.5-10 NXS is perfect... and its lightweight.

Thats a huge bonus for me. Keeps the SPR usable offhand.

I love my LV ret. on my 18" SPR, I've used it a ton...super fast and very accurate given you take the time to sight it in correctly. It matches up almost perfectly for the BH's MK262 load....sight in distance for the 200yd hash is actually 200yds.

What do you plan to do with the rifle?

I had a 2.5-10x32 NXS on mine and while I think it's a nice all around scope, if you plan to use the rifle at night I would choose something different. I tried to use mine a few times to fox hunt at night and even on the lowest setting the illumination would wash out the image so bad I couldn't see much of anything. The reticle was too thin to see in the dark with the illumination off. I ended up selling the Nightforce and replaced it with a Leupold VX-r patrol.

Re: What scope for Mk12 Mod1

I have a old leupold VXIII tactical with the M3 turret on my MOD 0. Not that im suggesting buying an old model but the M3 is quick to practical targets if thats what your looking for. With M3 turrets and a TMR reticle I dont know what you couldnt do on that platform. I know its a leupold but I haven't had a problem with mine at all. Plus they make the right caps to match the 77SMK not that that is critical. The size and weight footprint is not bad either.

I would go with NSX 2.5-10x32 Mil/Mil if your looking for more precision. I have one on my LMT MWS and if money and opportunity met I would buy the 2.5-10x24 for my MOD 0.

Im not sure if your around my area but if you want PM me you could check my NSX out at a local range to see if it would work for you. I have a new Elcan Specter DR comming on Monday for my MRP so I will be at either Pontiac Lk rec or Double Action to sight it in next week.

Which VX-R did you get? Do you like it?

Re: What scope for Mk12 Mod1

I have a VX-R patrol 3-9x40mm also, it's not on my mk12 mod 1 but would make a great SPR for 600m shooting where you don't plan on going 2 revs so zero stop isn't needed. The VX-R is a larger profile than i would like on my SPR, i just like the smaller objective scopes.

Contrary to what most believe the Leupold mk4 M2 2.5-8x36mm does have zero stop.

Re: What scope for Mk12 Mod1

Do you want to keep this as an authentic 'clone', or are you just looking for a good optic that isn't a tank on top of the rail? I only ask because that makes a bit of a difference in the suggestions...

If you're going to take it out to 500-600 yards than anything with a top end around 10x is plenty.

If you want something compact and relatively lightweight, then either the Leupold 2.5-8x (or 3-9x if you can find one used) or the NF 2.5-10x is ideal. If size/weight don't matter so much then your options open up.

One advantage of the Leupold with the M3 turrets (1MOA elevation) is that you can get out to 1k in one turn. But you give up some adjustment precision, and if you have to dial and then hold it's a bit more complicated with the MOA turrets and mil reticle. With the NF on the other hand, you can get matched mil/mil or MOA/MOA reticle and turrets.

Light-gathering ability isn't solely a function of objective lens size, it's also a function of the light transmission capabilities of the glass. So it's entirely possible that the 32mm NF transmits more light than the 36mm Leupold.

Never stated it was solely the function of the objective lens. The nightforce probably is brighter. But traditionally bigger objective is part of it. As i said prefer 36mm over 32mm aesthetics of it also. Everyone see's different so it's also entirely possible that the Leupy is brighter than the NF to my eyes.
