Hey guys

So i bought a Sako TRG-22 .308 Win and was wondering about a good scope. I was looking in this section and realized that there was a lot i didn't know. I herd good things about swarovski optic but also looking for the best bang for a good distance and hunting scope.

Re: What scope should i go with

Hey man, several people are more than likely going to bombard you with "use the search function" but it really depends on what you are trying to do and what your budget is.

small budget-Millet is pretty good glass. may have to send one or two of them back before you get a good one though.

Medium budget-Bushnell elite 42-6500 series scopes.

large budget-night force (over rated in my book) schmit and bender, USO.

Re: What scope should i go with

Swarozski has nice glass, but the adjustment range is going to be limited if you are shooting at longer distances, unless you have a canted base. Nightforce would be my top choice. I certainly don't think they are over-rated. Lot of adjustment, well built, user friendly NP-R1 reticle. No they are not FFP, but then again I don't think this is an advantage in most hunting situations or known long distances. No experience with S&B to tell you, but USO is a good choice also. They are going to be FFP and you are likely going to drop more coin to get one. As another poster pointed out, try the search function. It will guide you to posts already made about your inguiry.

Re: What scope should i go with

It is rare to find a gun store or sporting goods store that carries the high end tactical glass. Most tactical scopes have to be ordered, usually online.

If what you want is to have a military sniper type scope that can shoot out to 1000 yards, you need at least 50moa of elevation adjustment. And unless you have 80 moa of adjustment you will want to put it on a 20moa base (that adds to the elevation moa).

It all depends on how much do you want to spend? You can do it for $300 or $3000 and everywhere in between. Pay more money, get a better scope. But a $300 Nikon Buckmaster with 50 moa of adjustment and mil dot reticle will do the job.

Pay more and you get mil elevation knobs, zero stop, and 'high speed' (many clicks, fewer turns) turrets, "front focal plane" as well as better glass.

Just make sure you get enough elevation adjustment to shoot out as far as you want to shoot.

Re: What scope should i go with

I am very pleased with my Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 FFP mil/mil. It has a limited amount of elevation adjustment, but does fine with a 20 moa base.

Re: What scope should i go with

I guess I should have clarified WHY the NF is overated in my Book- the features are really nice, turrets feel good, zero stop is nice, seems to be well built. the ILL is not that great, and the biggest downfall to me was the glass. I guess i just expected too much out of it. I have a bushnell elite that is right there with the NF as far as optical clarity. that being said, are zero stops and a "better" turrets worth a thousand dollars more? Not for me. You cant hit what you can't see!

Re: What scope should i go with

Let me give you some advice that you should take with you to your grave. If you buy cheap, you'll buy twice.
I can't begin to tell you how many guys buy crap and put it on their stick and then wonder why its shits while they are shooting. So stick to the bigger names and companies. You'll learn what they are as you do your research and filter out the info.

In my book mission drives the gear train. So get something that is on par with what you'll be doing.

If you go with these, you'll never have to worry about your scope. It will out last you probably.

1.Schmidt & Bender. The best there is. Very Pricey (what I have)
2. NightForce. Built like a shit brick house.(If I didn't have a S&B this is what I would have.)
3. Leupold
4. USO

Make sure you use a good set of rings like Badger Ordnance too.

Good luck.

Re: What scope should i go with

Okay, everybody has their opinion and mine is:
Best bang for the buck far and away is the Zeiss Conquest. Totally depending on what you are putting it on and what you intend to do with it, Zeiss optics are great. Kahles blow my mind with their quality optics, Swarvoski are fantastic, Leupold are pretty good for the most part barring what a lot of people say about them. Bushnell, Burris and that level are okay but not what I want in an optic for the most part although they do make some good optics at their top level.

My suggestion is first look at Zeiss Conquest, next at Leupold VX3 then around that depending on what you want your optic to do. Look at field of view and eye relief and match those two to what you are using it for and go from there. Welcome to the crazy and totally biased world of optics!!!!!

Yep, the Zeiss is the best glass for the $$ in my opinion.
