People tell me to get 4-24 or 5-30 and I can't figure it out. as I have been shopping my plan was to get a 5-50x56 I thought it will do 5-30 but if I wanted to zoom in more. I always can. Why wouldn't you want something that can do anywhere from 5-50

Lol, Budget? Use/application?

Otherwise TT, ZComp, Hensoldt or SB should work very nicely on the win mag. The SB 5x45x56 high power is a great all around optic with lots of magnification.

What distance are you planning to shoot? I used to think the 1x power for every 100 yards was outdated...now I shoot that past 1000 yards. Most of the targets past 1000 that I've been shooting lately have been very generous in size. 15x has served me well out to a mile and beyond. I think most people need to worry more about elevation in the turrets and less about magnification.

Sure, I have problems seeing my impacts at extreme distance when the sun isn't right....or the mirage is kicking my butt.....and can't hear the ding of the steel due to wind...but sometimes I have someone on a spotter scope. I am looking at the 2 mile cameras though.

For me ... eye box size is really critical. I've found the Leupold Mark 5 (5-25) mag'd down to 21-ish ... is perfect for the long distances. The slightly reduced magnification helps an already generous eye box to give me a great target view. And I can increase to 25x for the distances past 1,000 yards. The higher the magnification, the less-forgiving the eye box (generally). First purchase was a Vortex Golden Eagle that went to 60x ... I thought "more is better" ... but it was almost impossible to use after the mid-20's. Incremental stop prior to the Leupold was (is) an Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29 that's pretty good too, but not as big an eye box as the Leupold. This is my experience. YMMV
