What scope would you put on your 300 win mag and/or 338 Lapua if you wanted to spend 3-4 grand, what are the pros and cons of the scope if known. From what I found so far S&B or the Beast are the only two that fit my needs I think ???? I am leaning towards the Beast but ........input is needed.....Thanks !!!!

Check out the Leupold Mark 8s. They have a nice 3.5-25 option that gives you a marginally better minimum magnification. I'd probably throw Premier Reticles in there too, but not sure if it'll be hard to find one after TT just bought them. The PR with Gen II XR was one of my favorites. Im not a huge fan, but a lot of people like the Kahles Competition line of optics. I always hear people raving about the quality of their glass. All that said, redneckbmxer's suggestion is nearly fool proof in my opinion...

^^^^^ Agree with new S&B 5-25 with MSR or the new Vortex Razor HD 4.5-27X with EBR-2C reticle. Look no further! BEAST would work, if and when it comes available!

I like all my scores in mil/mil with 0.1 mil clicks.

I have spent dozens upon dozens of hours reasearching this same thing. I also considered the Leupold Mk 8. I picked the BEAST because of the following reasons. The high speed .2mil clicks on the elevation, with the .1mil lever if I need it. The digi-illum function with two different colors and full reticle illumination. The lifetime warranty over the 2 year S&B; it just gives me peace of mind. 120 MOA of elevation adjustment, and the brake for elevation and the locking feature of the windage. I liked the Mil-R reticle and the made in USA factor. Also the great feeback from Frank on his experience with it was a huge help. I am deployed so I have a bit to wait anyway until I can use it so the lack of current availability does not bother me. I was scared off the Mk 8 because a few of the pics through the reticle and feedback from other members here said the reticle was wounted off center. I think you will be happy with either one.

Agree with you on either the S&B or NF Beast.

For only 3 or 4K more you could get the Henny (you know you WANT it).

Both of my 300 Win Mags have US Optics 3.8-22 ERGO/EREK scopes.

But the ERGO was discontinued and I do not care for current USO TPal scopes, so I have mostly S&B and Hensoldt on my other rifles (and one ATACR).

What do you dislike about tpal

I want to drop the hammer this week. The beast is out. SB upped the price and the discount arena is zero. US optics....Kahles....Premier (although didn't someone buy them out) or Leupold seem to be my best bet for a 3-5 to 22-25 scope. Uhhhhhhhhg :(. Or do i forgo FFP and get a nightforce since I know they rock.

While the TPal may not gather/transfer light as well as the ERGO scopes, they seem OK.

To me, the parallax requires adjustment (tweaking) often when shooting. Maybe it was due to recoil (vibration) or temperatures.

The question of the day is: Is first focal plane really worth $1500. I can get an ATACR for that much cheaper than the S&B. any thoughts. Hell I am worse than a woman right now. F$&(

Yes get a FFP, that way the holdover and holdoff values will be the same at any magnification...like when you need more FOV or when mirage is up.

Hard to beat the S&B. IF IN A HURRY buy a used one for now and sell it for the same price later on when the mil/mil Beast isn't so hard to get, that is if you can get yourself to part with it.

I wish I had that dilemma brother! Ever since I saw the stats on the beast, I thought it was a perfect example of what all manufacturers need for options. Good luck. From my experiences just buy one and don't look back. I doubt you would be let down with any of the for mentioned scopes.
