Gunsmithing What twist for a 30-338 Winchester mag

I am about to rebarrel my 30-338 and was going to use a bartlien 5r with a 1/10 twist. I normally shoot 165-180 grain bullets. Will this work?

I would go 1/9 to allow you to shoot the heavy's such as the Bergers.

FWIW, according to the actual Berger Twist Rate Calculator (http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/), the 230 gr .30 only loses .001 off of the G7 at a MV of 2650; it shows the "ideal" twist rate to be 9.75:1.

I've shot them out of a 10-twist 300 WM at an estimated MV of 2700 (in front of 70 gr of H4831 out of a 26" barrel) and gotten great results (though to be fair, I've only shot them out to 100 yards). YMMV.

Considering the current bullet trend, I wouldn't want a 10 inch twist in any cartridge larger than a 308 Win. I would want at least a 9" twist. On a rebarrel, I would also prefer a 308 Norma Mag over a 30-338 Winchester.

I like the 30-338 because I have all the equipment to load it and piles of brass. I will not shoot anything heavier than a 180 grain out of this gun. I shoot 200 grain bullets in my 300 wby. This gun is a 100% hunting rifle.
